Amos:6-9

ukjv@Amos:6:1 @ Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

ukjv@Amos:6:2 @ Pass all of you unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go all of you to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

ukjv@Amos:6:3 @ All of you that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

ukjv@Amos:6:4 @ That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

ukjv@Amos:6:5 @ That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David;

ukjv@Amos:6:6 @ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

ukjv@Amos:6:7 @ Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

ukjv@Amos:6:8 @ The Lord GOD has sworn by himself, says the LORD the God of hosts, I detest the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

ukjv@Amos:6:9 @ And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

ukjv@Amos:6:10 @ And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burns him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with you? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold your tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

ukjv@Amos:6:11 @ For, behold, the LORD commands, and he will strike the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

ukjv@Amos:6:12 @ Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for all of you have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

ukjv@Amos:6:13 @ All of you which rejoice in a thing of nothing, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

ukjv@Amos:6:14 @ But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, says the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

ukjv@Amos:7:1 @ Thus has the Lord GOD showed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

ukjv@Amos:7:2 @ And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I plead to you: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

ukjv@Amos:7:3 @ The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, says the LORD.

ukjv@Amos:7:4 @ Thus has the Lord GOD showed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

ukjv@Amos:7:5 @ Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I plead to you: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

ukjv@Amos:7:6 @ The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, says the Lord GOD.

ukjv@Amos:7:7 @ Thus he showed me: and, behold, the LORD stood upon a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.

ukjv@Amos:7:8 @ And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what see you? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the LORD, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

ukjv@Amos:7:9 @ And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

ukjv@Amos:7:10 @ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

ukjv@Amos:7:11 @ For thus Amos says, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

ukjv@Amos:7:12 @ Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O you seer, go, flee you away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

ukjv@Amos:7:13 @ But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

ukjv@Amos:7:14 @ Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

ukjv@Amos:7:15 @ And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

ukjv@Amos:7:16 @ Now therefore hear you the word of the LORD: You says, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not your word against the house of Isaac.

ukjv@Amos:7:17 @ Therefore thus says the LORD; Your wife shall be an harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you shall die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity out of his land.

ukjv@Amos:8:1 @ Thus has the Lord GOD showed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

ukjv@Amos:8:2 @ And he said, Amos, what see you? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end has come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

ukjv@Amos:8:3 @ And the songs of the temple shall be wailings in that day, says the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

ukjv@Amos:8:4 @ Hear this, O all of you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

ukjv@Amos:8:5 @ Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

ukjv@Amos:8:6 @ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

ukjv@Amos:8:7 @ The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

ukjv@Amos:8:8 @ Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwells therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

ukjv@Amos:8:9 @ And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

ukjv@Amos:8:10 @ And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

ukjv@Amos:8:11 @ Behold, the days come, says the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

ukjv@Amos:8:12 @ And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run back and forth to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

ukjv@Amos:8:13 @ In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

ukjv@Amos:8:14 @ They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The manner of Beersheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

ukjv@Amos:9:1 @ I saw the LORD standing upon the altar: and he said, Strike the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that flees of them shall not flee away, and he that escapes of them shall not be delivered.

ukjv@Amos:9:2 @ Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:

ukjv@Amos:9:3 @ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

ukjv@Amos:9:4 @ And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

ukjv@Amos:9:5 @ And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that touches the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

ukjv@Amos:9:6 @ It is he that builds his stories in the heaven, and has founded his troop in the earth; he that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.

ukjv@Amos:9:7 @ Are all of you not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? says the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

ukjv@Amos:9:8 @ Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, says the LORD.

ukjv@Amos:9:9 @ For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.

ukjv@Amos:9:10 @ All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.

ukjv@Amos:9:11 @ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

ukjv@Amos:9:12 @ That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, says the LORD that does this.

ukjv@Amos:9:13 @ Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that sows seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.

ukjv@Amos:9:14 @ And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

ukjv@Amos:9:15 @ And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, says the LORD your God.

ukjv@Luke:3:25 @ Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,
