* And this I say (5719 ), that the covenant , that was confirmed before (5772 ) of God in Christ , the law , which was (5756 ) four hundred and thirty years after , cannot disannul (5719 ), that it should make the promise of none effect (5658 ). * For if the inheritance be of the law , it is no more of promise : but God gave (5766 ) it to Abraham by promise . * Wherefore then serveth the law ? It was added (5681 ) because of transgressions , till the seed should come (5632 ) to whom the promise was made (5766 ); and it was ordained (5651 ) by angels in the hand of a mediator . * Now a mediator is (5748 ) not a mediator of one , but God is (5748 ) one . * Is the law then against the promises of God ? God forbid (5636 ): for if there had been a law given (5681 ) which could (5740 ) have given life (5658 ), verily righteousness should have been (5713 ) by the law . * But the scripture hath concluded (5656 ) all under sin , that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given (5686 ) to them that believe (5723 ). * But before faith came (5629 ), we were kept (5712 ) under the law , shut up (5772 ) unto the faith which should afterwards (5723 ) be revealed (5683 ). * Wherefore the law was (5754 ) our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ , that we might be justified (5686 ) by faith .
