Genesis:15-17

drb@Genesis:15:1 @Now when these things were done, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: Fear not, Abram, I am thy protector, and thy reward exceeding great.

drb@Genesis:15:2 @And Abram said: Lord God, what wilt thou give me? I shall go without children: and the son of the steward of my house is this Damascus Eliezer.

drb@Genesis:15:3 @And Abram added: But to me thou hast not given seed: and lo my servant, born in my house, shall be my heir.

drb@Genesis:15:4 @And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: He shall not be thy heir: but he that shall come out of thy bowels, him shalt thou have for thy heir.

drb@Genesis:15:5 @And he thought him forth abroad, and said to him: Look up to heaven and number the stars, if thou canst. And he said to him: So shall thy seed be.

drb@Genesis:15:6 @Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.

drb@Genesis:15:7 @And he said to him: I am the Lord who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to gibe thee this land, and that thou mightest possess it.

drb@Genesis:15:8 @But he said: Lord God, whereby may I know that I shall possess it?

drb@Genesis:15:9 @And the Lord answered, and said: Take me a cow of three years old, and a she goat of three years, and a ram of three years, a turtle also, and a pigeon.

drb@Genesis:15:10 @And he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the two pieces of each one against the other; but the birds he divided not.

drb@Genesis:15:11 @And the fowls came down upon carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

drb@Genesis:15:12 @And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a great and darksome horror seized upon him.

drb@Genesis:15:13 @And it was said unto him: Know thou beforehand that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land not their own, and they shall bring them under bondage, and afflict them four hundred years.

drb@Genesis:15:14 @But I will judge the nation which they shall serve, and after this they shall come out with great substance.

drb@Genesis:15:15 @And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace, and be buried in a good old age.

drb@Genesis:15:16 @But in the fourth generation they shall return hither: for as yet the iniquities of the Amorrhites are not at the full until this present time.

drb@Genesis:15:17 @And when the sun was set, there arose a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.

drb@Genesis:15:18 @That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.

drb@Genesis:15:19 @The Cineans and Cenezites, the Cedmonites,

drb@Genesis:15:20 @And the Hethites, and the Pherezites, the Raphaim also,

drb@Genesis:15:21 @And the Amorrhites, and the Chanaanits, and the Gergesites, and the Jebusites.

drb@Genesis:16:1 @Now Sarai the wife of Abram, had brought forth no children; having a handmaid, an Egyptian, named Agar,

drb@Genesis:16:2 @She said to her husband: Behold, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: go in unto my handmaid, it may be I may have children of her at least. And when he agreed to her request,

drb@Genesis:16:3 @She took Agar the Egyptian her handmaid, ten years after they first dwelt in the land of Chanaan, and gave her to her husband to wife.

drb@Genesis:16:4 @And he went in to her. But she, perceiving that she was with child, despised her mistress.

drb@Genesis:16:5 @And Sarai said to Abram: Thou dost unjustly with me: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom, and she perceiving herself to be with child, despiseth me. The Lord judge between me and thee.

drb@Genesis:16:6 @And Abram made answer, and said to her: Behold thy handmaid is in thy own hand, use her its it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai afflicted her, she ran away.

drb@Genesis:16:7 @And the angel of the Lord having found her, by a fountain of water in the wilderness, which is in the way to Sur in the desert,

drb@Genesis:16:8 @He said to her: Agar, handmaid of Sarai, whence comest thou? and whither goest thou? And she answered: I flee from the face of Sarai, my mistress.

drb@Genesis:16:9 @And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hand.

drb@Genesis:16:10 @And again he said: I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, and it shall not be numbered for multitude.

drb@Genesis:16:11 @And again: Behold, said he, thou art with child, and thou shalt bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name Ismael, because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.

drb@Genesis:16:12 @He shall be a wild man: his hand will be against all men, and all men's hands against him: and he shall pitch his tents over against all his brethren.

drb@Genesis:16:13 @And she called the name of the Lord that spoke unto her: Thou the God who hast seen me. For she said: Verily here have I seen the hinder parts of him that seeth me.

drb@Genesis:16:14 @Therefore she called that well, The well of him that liveth and seeth me. The same is between Cades and Bared.

drb@Genesis:16:15 @And Agar brought forth a son to Abram: who called his name Ismael.

drb@Genesis:16:16 @Abram was fourscore and six years old when Agar brought him forth Ismael.

drb@Genesis:17:1 @And after he began to be ninety and nine years old, the Lord appeared to him: and said unto him: I am the Almighty God: walk before me, and be perfect.

drb@Genesis:17:2 @And I will make my covenant between me and thee: and I will multiply thee exceedingly.

drb@Genesis:17:3 @Abram tell flat on his face.

drb@Genesis:17:4 @And God said to him: I AM, and my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father. of many nations.

drb@Genesis:17:5 @Neither shall thy name be called any more Abram: but thou shalt be called Abraham: because I have made thee a father of many nations.

drb@Genesis:17:6 @And I will make thee increase, exceedingly, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

drb@Genesis:17:7 @And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and between thy sad after thee in their generations, by a perpetual covenant: to be a God to thee, and to thy seed after thee.

drb@Genesis:17:8 @And I will give to thee, and to thy seed, the land of thy sojournment, all the land of Chanaan for a perpetual possession, and I will be their God.

drb@Genesis:17:9 @Again God said to Abraham: And thou therefore shalt keep my covenant, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

drb@Genesis:17:10 @This is my covenant which you shall observe, between me and you, and thy seed after thee: All the male kind of you shall be circumcised:

drb@Genesis:17:11 @And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, that it may be for a h sign of the covenant between me and you.

drb@Genesis:17:12 @An infant of eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations: he that is born in the house, as well as the bought servant shall be circumcised, and whosoever is not of your stock:

drb@Genesis:17:13 @And my covenant shall be in your flesh for a perpetual covenant.

drb@Genesis:17:14 @The male, whose dash of his foreskin shall not be circumcised, that soul shall be destroyed out of his people: because he hath broken my covenant.

drb@Genesis:17:15 @God said also to Abraham: Sarai thy wife thou shalt not call Sarai, but Sara.

drb@Genesis:17:16 @And I will bless her, and of her I will give thee a son, whom I will bless, and he shell become nations, and kings of people shall spring from him.

drb@Genesis:17:17 @Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, saying in his heart: Shall a son, thinkest thou, be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sara that is ninety years old bring forth?

drb@Genesis:17:18 @And he said to God: O that Ismael may live before thee.

drb@Genesis:17:19 @And God said to Abraham: Sara thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac, and I will establish my covenant with him for a perpetual covenant, and with his seed after him.

drb@Genesis:17:20 @And as for Ismael I have also heard thee. Behold, I will bless him, and increase, and multiply him exceedingly: he shall beget twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation.

drb@Genesis:17:21 @But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sara shall bring forth to thee at this time in the next year.

drb@Genesis:17:22 @And when he had left oil speaking with him, God went up from Abraham.

drb@Genesis:17:23 @And Abraham took Ismael his son, and all that were born in his house: and all whom he had bought, every male among the men of his house: and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin forthwith the very same day, as God had commanded him

drb@Genesis:17:24 @Abraham was ninety and nine years old, when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin.

drb@Genesis:17:25 @And Ismael his son was full thirteen years old at the time of his circumcision.

drb@Genesis:17:26 @And all the men of his house, as well they that were born in his house, as the bought servants and strangers were circumcised with him.

drb@Genesis:17:27 @The selfsame day was Abraham circumcised and Ismael his son.

drb@Genesis:18:1 @And the Lord appeared to him in the vale of Mambre as he was sitting at the door of his tent, in the very heat of the day.
