Genesis:20-23

lesserot@Genesis:20:1 @ And Abraham journeyed from there toward the south country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur and sojourned in Gerar.

lesserot@Genesis:20:2 @ And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister; and Abimelech the king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

lesserot@Genesis:20:3 @ But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou shalt die for the sake of the woman whom thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.

lesserot@Genesis:20:4 @ But Abimelech had not come near to her; and he said, Lord, wilt thou then slay also a righteous nation?

lesserot@Genesis:20:5 @ Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself, said, He is my brother; in the integrity of my heart and the innocency of my hands have I done this.

lesserot@Genesis:20:6 @ And God said unto him in the dream, Yea, I also well know that thou hast done this in the integrity of thy heart; therefore did I also withhold thee from sinning against me; for this cause I suffered thee not to touch her.

lesserot@Genesis:20:7 @ And now restore the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for thee, that thou mayest live; and if thou restore her not, know thou, that thou shalt surety die, thou and all that are thine.

lesserot@Genesis:20:8 @ And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were greatly afraid.

lesserot@Genesis:20:9 @ Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and in what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? deeds that ought not to be done thou hast done unto me.

lesserot@Genesis:20:10 @ And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou didst this thing?

lesserot@Genesis:20:11 @ And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will slay me for the sake of my wife.

lesserot@Genesis:20:12 @ And yet indeed she is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

lesserot@Genesis:20:13 @ And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt show unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

lesserot@Genesis:20:14 @ And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and men–servants, and women–servants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored to him Sarah his wife.

lesserot@Genesis:20:15 @ And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it is pleasing in thy eyes.

lesserot@Genesis:20:16 @ And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, this is to thee a covering of the eyes unto all that are with thee; and with all others thou canst thus justify thyself.

lesserot@Genesis:20:17 @ And Abraham prayed unto God; and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid–servants, so that they could bear children.

lesserot@Genesis:20:18 @ For the Lord had fast closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

lesserot@Genesis:21:1 @ And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

lesserot@Genesis:21:2 @ And Sarah conceived, and bore unto Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.

lesserot@Genesis:21:3 @ And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

lesserot@Genesis:21:4 @ And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, at eight days old, as God had commanded him.

lesserot@Genesis:21:5 @ And Abraham was a hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

lesserot@Genesis:21:6 @ And Sarah said, God hath made me joy, whoever heareth it will laugh concerning me.

lesserot@Genesis:21:7 @ And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarai should have given children suck? yet I have born a son in his old age.

lesserot@Genesis:21:8 @ And the child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

lesserot@Genesis:21:9 @ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had born unto Abraham, mocking.

lesserot@Genesis:21:10 @ Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bond–woman and her son; for the son of this bond–woman shall not be heir with my son, with Isaac.

lesserot@Genesis:21:11 @ And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s eyes, because of his son.

lesserot@Genesis:21:12 @ And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy eyes because of the lad, and because of thy bond–woman; in all that Sarah may say unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

lesserot@Genesis:21:13 @ And also of the son of the bond–woman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

lesserot@Genesis:21:14 @ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it onto her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away; and she departed, and wandered astray in the wilderness of Beer–sheba.

lesserot@Genesis:21:15 @ And the water was spent from the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

lesserot@Genesis:21:16 @ And she went, and seated herself down at some distance, a good way off, about a bow–shot; for she said, I cannot look on when the child dieth; so she sat at a distance, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

lesserot@Genesis:21:17 @ And God heard the voice of the lad; and an angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad, there where he is.

lesserot@Genesis:21:18 @ Arise, lift up the lad, and lay hold on him with thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation.

lesserot@Genesis:21:19 @ And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water: and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

lesserot@Genesis:21:20 @ And God was with the lad; and he grew up, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

lesserot@Genesis:21:21 @ And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

lesserot@Genesis:21:22 @ And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, spoke unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:

lesserot@Genesis:21:23 @ Now therefore swear unto me here by God, that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son; according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, shalt thou do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

lesserot@Genesis:21:24 @ And Abraham said, I will swear.

lesserot@Genesis:21:25 @ And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

lesserot@Genesis:21:26 @ And Abimelech said, I know not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me; nor have I heard of it except this day.

lesserot@Genesis:21:27 @ And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

lesserot@Genesis:21:28 @ And Abraham set seven ewe–lambs of the flock, by themselves.

lesserot@Genesis:21:29 @ And Abimelech said unto Abraham; What mean these seven ewe–lambs which thou hast set by themselves?

lesserot@Genesis:21:30 @ And he said, For these seven ewe–lambs shalt thou take from my hand, that they may be a witness unto me that I have dug this well.

lesserot@Genesis:21:31 @ Wherefore he called that place Beer–sheba; because there they swore, both of them.

lesserot@Genesis:21:32 @ Thus they made a covenant at Beer–sheba; then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

lesserot@Genesis:21:33 @ And Abraham planted an orchard in Beer–sheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the God of everlasting.

lesserot@Genesis:21:34 @ And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.

lesserot@Genesis:22:1 @ And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and he said unto him, Abraham, and he said, Behold, here am I.

lesserot@Genesis:22:2 @ And he said: Take now thy son, thy only one, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt–offering upon one of the mountains which I tell thee of.

lesserot@Genesis:22:3 @ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he clave the wood for the burnt–offering, and arose, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

lesserot@Genesis:22:4 @ On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

lesserot@Genesis:22:5 @ And Abraham said unto his young men, abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder, and we will worship, and then come again to you.

lesserot@Genesis:22:6 @ And Abraham took the wood for the burnt–offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took in his hand the fire and the knife; and they went both of them together.

lesserot@Genesis:22:7 @ And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said, My father; and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold, here is the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt–offering?

lesserot@Genesis:22:8 @ And Abraham said, God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt–offering, my son; so they went both of them together.

lesserot@Genesis:22:9 @ And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built there an altar, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar above the wood.

lesserot@Genesis:22:10 @ And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

lesserot@Genesis:22:11 @ But the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham; and he said, Here am I.

lesserot@Genesis:22:12 @ And he said, Lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou the least unto him; for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing that thou hast not withheld thy son, thy only one, from me.

lesserot@Genesis:22:13 @ And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, there was a ram that was afterward caught in a thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt–offering in the stead of his son.

lesserot@Genesis:22:14 @ And Abraham called the name of that place, Adonai–yireh: as it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

lesserot@Genesis:22:15 @ And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham the second time out of heaven,

lesserot@Genesis:22:16 @ And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, since, because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thy only one:

lesserot@Genesis:22:17 @ That I will greatly bless thee, and I will exceedingly multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

lesserot@Genesis:22:18 @ And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because that thou hast obeyed my voice.

lesserot@Genesis:22:19 @ And Abraham returned unto his young men; and they rose up, and went together to Beer–sheba; and Abraham dwelt in Beer–sheba.

lesserot@Genesis:22:20 @ And it came to pass after these things, that it was told to Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she also, hath born children unto Nachor thy brother;

lesserot@Genesis:22:21 @ ‘Uz his first born, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

lesserot@Genesis:22:22 @ And Kesed, and Chazo, and Pildash, and Yidlaph, and Bethuel.

lesserot@Genesis:22:23 @ And Bethuel begat Rebekah; these eight did Milcah bear to Nachor, Abraham’s brother.

lesserot@Genesis:22:24 @ And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she also bore Tebach, and Gacham, and Thachash, and Maachah.

lesserot@Genesis:23:1 @ And the lifetime of Sarah was a hundred and twenty–seven years; were the years of the life of Sarah.

lesserot@Genesis:23:2 @ And Sarah died in Kiryath–arba, the same in Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

lesserot@Genesis:23:3 @ And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke unto the sons of Heth, saying,

lesserot@Genesis:23:4 @ A stranger and a sojourner I am with you; give me a possession for a burying–place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

lesserot@Genesis:23:5 @ And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him:

lesserot@Genesis:23:6 @ Hear us, my lord; a prince of God thou art among us; in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, so that thou mayest bury thy dead.

lesserot@Genesis:23:7 @ And Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.

lesserot@Genesis:23:8 @ And he spoke with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and intercede for me with Ephron the son of Zochar,

lesserot@Genesis:23:9 @ That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his, which is at the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me, for a possession as a burying–place amongst you.

lesserot@Genesis:23:10 @ And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, and of all those that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

lesserot@Genesis:23:11 @ Nay, my lord, hear me: the field I give to thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it to thee; in the presence of the sons of my people do I give it to thee; bury thy dead.

lesserot@Genesis:23:12 @ And Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.

lesserot@Genesis:23:13 @ And he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wouldst only hear me; I will give the money for the field, take it off me, and I will bury my dead there.

lesserot@Genesis:23:14 @ And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,

lesserot@Genesis:23:15 @ My lord, hearken unto me: a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and thee? only bury thy dead.

lesserot@Genesis:23:16 @ And Abraham understood the meaning of Ephron; and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.

lesserot@Genesis:23:17 @ And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all its borders round about, were made sure

lesserot@Genesis:23:18 @ Unto Abraham for a bought possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

lesserot@Genesis:23:19 @ And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

lesserot@Genesis:23:20 @ And the field, with the cave that is therein, was made sure unto Abraham for a possession as a burying–place by the sons of Heth.

lesserot@Genesis:24:1 @ And Abraham was old, well stricken in years; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.
