Genesis:25:19-27:40

lesserot@Genesis:25:19 @ And these are the generations of Isaac, the son of Abraham: Abraham begat Isaac.

lesserot@Genesis:25:20 @ And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian, of Padan–aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian, to himself as wife.

lesserot@Genesis:25:21 @ And Isaac entreated the Lord in behalf of his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

lesserot@Genesis:25:22 @ And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why did I desire this? And she went to inquire of the Lord.

lesserot@Genesis:25:23 @ And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

lesserot@Genesis:25:24 @ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

lesserot@Genesis:25:25 @ And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

lesserot@Genesis:25:26 @ And after that came his brother out, his hand holding on to Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

lesserot@Genesis:25:27 @ And the boys grew up: and Esau was an expert hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

lesserot@Genesis:25:28 @ And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison; but Rebekah loved Jacob.

lesserot@Genesis:25:29 @ And Jacob at one time boiled pottage, and Esau came from the field, and he was faint.

lesserot@Genesis:25:30 @ And Esau said to Jacob, Let me swallow down, I pray thee, some of that yonder red pottage, for I am faint; therefore was his name called Edom.

lesserot@Genesis:25:31 @ And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy right of first–born.

lesserot@Genesis:25:32 @ And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die; and what profit then can the right of first–born be to me?

lesserot@Genesis:25:33 @ And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore unto him, and he sold his right of first–born unto Jacob.

lesserot@Genesis:25:34 @ Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles, and he did eat and drink, and he rose up, and went his way; thus Esau despised the birthright.

lesserot@Genesis:26:1 @ And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham; and Isaac went unto Abimelech, the king of the Philistines, unto Gerar.

lesserot@Genesis:26:2 @ And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of.

lesserot@Genesis:26:3 @ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, will I give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father;

lesserot@Genesis:26:4 @ And I will cause thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and I will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves.

lesserot@Genesis:26:5 @ Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

lesserot@Genesis:26:6 @ And Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

lesserot@Genesis:26:7 @ And the men of the place asked concerning his wife; and he said, She is my sister; for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah, because she is of a handsome appearance.

lesserot@Genesis:26:8 @ And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech, the king of the Philistines, looked out at a window, and saw, and behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

lesserot@Genesis:26:9 @ And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I thought, Perhaps I may die for her.

lesserot@Genesis:26:10 @ And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? How easily might one of the people have lain with thy wife, and thou wouldst have brought guiltiness upon us.

lesserot@Genesis:26:11 @ And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

lesserot@Genesis:26:12 @ Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundred–fold: so the Lord blessed him.

lesserot@Genesis:26:13 @ And the man became great, and went forward and grew, until he became very great;

lesserot@Genesis:26:14 @ And he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants; and the Philistines envied him.

lesserot@Genesis:26:15 @ And all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, these the Philistines stopped, and filled them with earth.

lesserot@Genesis:26:16 @ And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go away from us; for thou hast become much mightier than we.

lesserot@Genesis:26:17 @ And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

lesserot@Genesis:26:18 @ And Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and which the Philistines had stopped after the death of Abraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

lesserot@Genesis:26:19 @ And the servants of Isaac dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

lesserot@Genesis:26:20 @ And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Essek; because they strove with him.

lesserot@Genesis:26:21 @ And they dug another well, and they strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

lesserot@Genesis:26:22 @ And he removed from there, and dug another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rechoboth, and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall increase in the land.

lesserot@Genesis:26:23 @ And he went up from there to Beer–sheba.

lesserot@Genesis:26:24 @ And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father; fear not, for I am with thee, and I will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for the sake of Abraham my servant.

lesserot@Genesis:26:25 @ And he built there an altar, and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched there his tent: and the servants of Isaac dug there a well.

lesserot@Genesis:26:26 @ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Achuzzath his friend, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.

lesserot@Genesis:26:27 @ And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing that ye do hate me, and have sent me away from you?

lesserot@Genesis:26:28 @ And they said, We saw clearly that the Lord was with thee; and we said, Let there be now an oath between us and thee; and we will make a covenant with thee;

lesserot@Genesis:26:29 @ That thou shalt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now one blessed of the Lord.

lesserot@Genesis:26:30 @ And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

lesserot@Genesis:26:31 @ And they rose up betimes in the morning, and they swore one to the other; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

lesserot@Genesis:26:32 @ And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and they said unto him, We have found water.

lesserot@Genesis:26:33 @ And he called it Shibah: therefore is the name of the city Beer–sheba unto this day.

lesserot@Genesis:26:34 @ And when Esau was forty years old he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri, the Hittite, and Bahsemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

lesserot@Genesis:26:35 @ And they were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

lesserot@Genesis:27:1 @ And it came to pass, when Isaac was old, and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

lesserot@Genesis:27:2 @ And he said, Behold now, I am grown old, I know not the day of my death:

lesserot@Genesis:27:3 @ Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me some venison;

lesserot@Genesis:27:4 @ And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

lesserot@Genesis:27:5 @ And Rebekah heard as Isaac was speaking to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

lesserot@Genesis:27:6 @ And Rebekah spoke unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,

lesserot@Genesis:27:7 @ Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat and bless thee before the Lord before my death.

lesserot@Genesis:27:8 @ And now, my son, obey my voice in that which I command thee.

lesserot@Genesis:27:9 @ Go, I pray thee, to the flock, and fetch me from there two good kids; and I will make them savory food for thy father, such as he loveth:

lesserot@Genesis:27:10 @ And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat; for the sake that he may bless thee before his death.

lesserot@Genesis:27:11 @ And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:

lesserot@Genesis:27:12 @ Peradventure my father will feel me, and I shall then seem to him as a deceiver; and I would bring upon me a curse, and not a blessing.

lesserot@Genesis:27:13 @ And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son; only obey my voice, and go fetch them to me.

lesserot@Genesis:27:14 @ And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved.

lesserot@Genesis:27:15 @ And Rebekah took the goodly garments of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and clothed therewith Jacob her younger son;

lesserot@Genesis:27:16 @ And the skins of the kids she put upon his hands, and upon the smooth part of his neck;

lesserot@Genesis:27:17 @ And she gave the savory food and bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of Jacob her son.

lesserot@Genesis:27:18 @ And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou my son?

lesserot@Genesis:27:19 @ And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first–born; I have done as thou didst speak to me: arise I pray thee, sit here and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

lesserot@Genesis:27:20 @ And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it before me.

lesserot@Genesis:27:21 @ And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be truly my son Esau or not.

lesserot@Genesis:27:22 @ And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father, and he felt him; and he said, The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

lesserot@Genesis:27:23 @ And he recognized him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.

lesserot@Genesis:27:24 @ And he said, Art thou indeed my son Esau? and he said I am.

lesserot@Genesis:27:25 @ And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat, and he brought him wine, and he drank.

lesserot@Genesis:27:26 @ And Isaac his father said unto him, Come near, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son.

lesserot@Genesis:27:27 @ And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is the smell of the field which the Lord hath blessed.

lesserot@Genesis:27:28 @ And may God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine;

lesserot@Genesis:27:29 @ Nations shall serve thee, and people bow down to thee; be lord over thy brethren, and thy mother’s sons shall bow down to thee; cursed be they that curse thee, and blessed be they that bless thee.

lesserot@Genesis:27:30 @ And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarcely gone out from the presence of his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

lesserot@Genesis:27:31 @ And he also made savory food, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.

lesserot@Genesis:27:32 @ And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy first–born, Esau.

lesserot@Genesis:27:33 @ And Isaac trembled greatly, exceedingly, and said, Who was it? where is he that had hunted venison, and brought it me, and I ate of all before thou camest, and blessed him? yea, he shall also remain blessed.

lesserot@Genesis:27:34 @ When Esau heard the words of his father, he uttered a great and exceedingly bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, also me, my father.

lesserot@Genesis:27:35 @ And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and took away thy blessing.

lesserot@Genesis:27:36 @ And he said, Hath he been therefore named Jacob, because he hath supplanted me these two times? my right of first–born he took away; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing: and he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me.

lesserot@Genesis:27:37 @ And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I endowed him: and what can I do now for thee, my son.

lesserot@Genesis:27:38 @ And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou then but one blessing, my father? bless me, also me, my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

lesserot@Genesis:27:39 @ And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and by the dew of heaven from above;

lesserot@Genesis:27:40 @ And by thy sword shalt thou live, and thy brother shalt thou serve; and it shall come to pass, that when thou shalt have the dominion, thou canst break his yoke from off thy neck.
