Job:38-41

updv@Job:38:1 @ Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

updv@Job:38:2 @ Who is this that darkens counsel By words without knowledge?

updv@Job:38:3 @ Gird up now your loins like a [noble] man; For I will demand of you, and you declare to me.

updv@Job:38:4 @ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.

updv@Job:38:5 @ Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?

updv@Job:38:6 @ On what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone,

updv@Job:38:7 @ When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

updv@Job:38:8 @ Or [who] shut up the sea with doors, When it broke forth, [as if] it had issued out of the womb;

updv@Job:38:9 @ When I made clouds its garment, And thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,

updv@Job:38:10 @ And marked out for it my bound, And set bars and doors,

updv@Job:38:11 @ And said, This far you will come, but no further; And here will your proud waves be placed?

updv@Job:38:12 @ Have you commanded the morning since your days [began], [And] caused the sunrise to know its place;

updv@Job:38:13 @ That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?

updv@Job:38:14 @ It is changed as clay under the seal; And [all things] stand forth as a garment:

updv@Job:38:15 @ And from the wicked their light is withheld, And the high arm is broken.

updv@Job:38:16 @ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?

updv@Job:38:17 @ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

updv@Job:38:18 @ Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.

updv@Job:38:19 @ Where is the way to the place that light stays? And as for darkness, where is its place,

updv@Job:38:20 @ That you should take it to its bound, And that you should discern the paths to its house?

updv@Job:38:21 @ [Doubtless], you know, for you were then born, And the number of your days is great!

updv@Job:38:22 @ Have you entered the treasuries of the snow, Or have you seen the treasures of the hail,

updv@Job:38:23 @ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, Against the day of battle and war?

updv@Job:38:24 @ Where is the way to the place that light is distributed, Or [from where is] the east wind scattered on the earth?

updv@Job:38:25 @ Who has cleft a channel for the floodwater, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;

updv@Job:38:26 @ To cause it to rain on a land where there is not a man; On the wilderness, in which there is not man;

updv@Job:38:27 @ To satisfy the waste and desolate [ground], And to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

updv@Job:38:28 @ Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?

updv@Job:38:29 @ Out of whose womb came the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given birth to it?

updv@Job:38:30 @ The waters hide themselves [and become] like stone, And the face of the deep is frozen.

updv@Job:38:31 @ Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the bands of Orion?

updv@Job:38:32 @ Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her train?

updv@Job:38:33 @ Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their dominion in the earth?

updv@Job:38:34 @ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover you?

updv@Job:38:35 @ Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go, And say to you, Here we are?

updv@Job:38:36 @ Who has put wisdom in the ibis? Or who has given understanding to the rooster?

updv@Job:38:37 @ Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,

updv@Job:38:38 @ When the dust runs into a mass, And the clods are stuck together?

updv@Job:38:39 @ Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

updv@Job:38:40 @ When they couch in their dens, [And] remain in the covert to lie in wait?

updv@Job:38:41 @ Who provides for the raven his prey, When his young ones cry to God, [And] wander for lack of food?

updv@Job:39:1 @ Do you know the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [Or] can you mark when the hinds calve?

updv@Job:39:2 @ Can you number the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they bring forth?

updv@Job:39:3 @ They bow themselves, they bring forth their young, They cast out their pains.

updv@Job:39:4 @ Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field; They go forth, and don't return again.

updv@Job:39:5 @ Who has sent out the wild donkey free? Or who has loosed the bonds of the swift donkey,

updv@Job:39:6 @ Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the salt land his dwelling-place?

updv@Job:39:7 @ He scorns the tumult of the city, Neither does he hear the shoutings of the driver.

updv@Job:39:8 @ The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searches after every green thing.

updv@Job:39:9 @ Will the wild-ox be content to serve you? Or will he spend the night by your crib?

updv@Job:39:10 @ Can you bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after you?

updv@Job:39:11 @ Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave to him your labor?

updv@Job:39:12 @ Will you confide in him, that he will bring home your seed, And gather [the grain] of your threshing-floor?

updv@Job:39:13 @ The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; [But] is it a pious plumage and down?

updv@Job:39:14 @ For she leaves her eggs on the earth, And warms them in the dust,

updv@Job:39:15 @ And forgets that the foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may trample them.

updv@Job:39:16 @ She deals harshly with her young ones, as if they were not hers: Though her labor is in vain, [she is] without fear;

updv@Job:39:17 @ Because God has deprived her of wisdom, Neither has he imparted to her understanding.

updv@Job:39:18 @ What time she lifts up herself on high, She scorns the horse and his rider.

updv@Job:39:19 @ Have you given the horse [his] might? Have you clothed his neck with the quivering mane?

updv@Job:39:20 @ Have you made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrible.

updv@Job:39:21 @ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength: He goes out to meet the armed men.

updv@Job:39:22 @ He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed; Neither does he turn back from the sword.

updv@Job:39:23 @ The quiver rattles against him, The flashing spear and the javelin.

updv@Job:39:24 @ He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage; Neither does he believe that it is the voice of the trumpet.

updv@Job:39:25 @ As often as the trumpet [sounds] he says, Aha! And he smells the battle far off, The thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

updv@Job:39:26 @ Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, (And) stretches her wings toward the south?

updv@Job:39:27 @ Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up, And makes her nest on high?

updv@Job:39:28 @ On the cliff she dwells, and makes her home, On the point of the cliff, and the stronghold.

updv@Job:39:29 @ From there she spies out the prey; Her eyes watch it far off.

updv@Job:39:30 @ Her young ones also suck up blood: And where the slain are, there she is.

updv@Job:40:1 @ Moreover Yahweh answered Job, and said,

updv@Job:40:2 @ Will he who criticizes contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.

updv@Job:40:3 @ Then Job answered Yahweh, and said,

updv@Job:40:4 @ Look, I am of small account; What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.

updv@Job:40:5 @ Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.

updv@Job:40:6 @ Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

updv@Job:40:7 @ Gird up your loins now like a [noble] man: I will demand of you, and you declare to me.

updv@Job:40:8 @ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

updv@Job:40:9 @ Or do you have an arm like God? And can you thunder with a voice like him?

updv@Job:40:10 @ Deck yourself now with excellency and dignity; And array yourself with honor and majesty.

updv@Job:40:11 @ Pour forth the overflowings of your anger; And look at everyone who is proud, and abase him.

updv@Job:40:12 @ Look at everyone who is proud, [and] bring him low; And tread down the wicked where they stand.

updv@Job:40:13 @ Hide them in the dust together; Bind their faces in the hidden [place].

updv@Job:40:14 @ Then I will also confess of you That your own right hand can save you.

updv@Job:40:15 @ Now look at behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass as an ox.

updv@Job:40:16 @ See now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the muscles of his belly.

updv@Job:40:17 @ He moves his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

updv@Job:40:18 @ His bones are [as] tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron.

updv@Job:40:19 @ He is the chief of the ways of God: [Only] he who made him brings his sword near.

updv@Job:40:20 @ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the beasts of the field play.

updv@Job:40:21 @ He lies under the lotus-trees, In the covert of the reed, and the fen.

updv@Job:40:22 @ The lotus-trees cover him with their shade; The willows of the brook circle him about.

updv@Job:40:23 @ Look, if a river overflows, he does not tremble; He is confident, though a Jordan swells even to his mouth.

updv@Job:40:24 @ Will any take him before his eyes, Or pierce through his nose with a snare?

updv@Job:41:1 @ Can you draw out leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?

updv@Job:41:2 @ Can you put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

updv@Job:41:3 @ Will he make many supplications to you? Or will he speak soft words to you?

updv@Job:41:4 @ Will he make a covenant with you, That you should take him for a slave forever?

updv@Job:41:5 @ Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your maidens?

updv@Job:41:6 @ Will the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him? Will they part him among the merchants?

updv@Job:41:7 @ Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, Or his head with fish-spears?

updv@Job:41:8 @ Lay your hand on him; Remember the battle, and do so no more.

updv@Job:41:9 @ Look, the hope of him is in vain: Will not one be overcome even at the sight of him?

updv@Job:41:10 @ None is so fierce that he dare stir him up; Who then is he that can stand before me?

updv@Job:41:11 @ Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? [Whatever is] under the whole heaven is mine.

updv@Job:41:12 @ I will not keep silent concerning his limbs, Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.

updv@Job:41:13 @ Who can strip off his outer garment? Who will come inside his jaws?

updv@Job:41:14 @ Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror.

updv@Job:41:15 @ [His] strong scales are [his] back, Shut up together [as with] a close seal.

updv@Job:41:16 @ One is so near to another, That no air can come between them.

updv@Job:41:17 @ They are stuck [as close as] a man to his brother; They join together, so that they can't be sundered.

updv@Job:41:18 @ His sneezings flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

updv@Job:41:19 @ Out of his mouth go burning torches, And sparks of fire leap forth.

updv@Job:41:20 @ Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, As of a boiling pot and [burning] rushes.

updv@Job:41:21 @ His breath kindles coals, And a flame goes forth from his mouth.

updv@Job:41:22 @ In his neck resides strength, And terror dances before him.

updv@Job:41:23 @ The flakes of his flesh are stuck: They are firm on him; they can't be moved.

updv@Job:41:24 @ His heart is as firm as a stone; Yes, firm as the nether millstone.

updv@Job:41:25 @ When he raises himself up, the gods are afraid: By reason of consternation they are beside themselves.

updv@Job:41:26 @ If one lays at him with the sword, it can't avail; Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.

updv@Job:41:27 @ He counts iron as straw, [And] bronze as rotten wood.

updv@Job:41:28 @ The arrow can't make him flee: Sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.

updv@Job:41:29 @ Clubs are counted as stubble: He laughs at the rushing of the javelin.

updv@Job:41:30 @ His underparts are [like] sharp potsherds: He spreads [as it were] a threshing-wain on the mire.

updv@Job:41:31 @ He makes the deep to boil like a pot: He makes the sea like a pot of ointment.

updv@Job:41:32 @ He makes a path to shine after him; One would think the deep to be gray-headed.

updv@Job:41:33 @ On earth there is not his like, That is made without fear.

updv@Job:41:34 @ He beholds everything that is high: He is king over all the sons of pride.

updv@Job:42:1 @ Then Job answered Yahweh, and said,
