* In the beginning was the Word , and the Word was with God , and the Word was God . * This was in the beginning with God . * All things were made by him , and without him not a single creature was made . * In him was life , and the life was the light of man . * And the light shone in darkness , but the darkness received it not . * A man named John , was sent from God . * This man came as a witness , to testify concerning the light , that through him , all might believe . * He was not himself the light ; but came to testify concerning the light . * The true light was he who , coming into the world , enlightens every man . * He was in the world , and the world was made by him ; yet the world knew him not . * He came to his own land , and his own people did not receive him ;
