* He said (5713 ), I am the voice of one crying (5723 ) in the wilderness , Make straight (5657 ) the way of the Lord , as said (5627 ) the prophet Esaias . * And they which were sent (5772 ) were (5713 ) of the Pharisees . * And they asked (5656 ) him , and said (5627 ) unto him , Why baptizest thou (5719 ) then , if thou be (5748 ) not that Christ , nor Elias , neither that prophet ? * John answered (5662 ) them , saying (5723 ), I baptize (5719 ) with water : but there standeth one (5707 ) (5758 ) among you , whom ye know (5758 ) not ; * He it is (5748 ), who coming (5740 ) after me is preferred (5754 ) before me , whose shoes latchet I am (5748 ) not worthy to unloose (5661 ). * These things were done (5633 ) in Bethabara beyond Jordan , where John was (5713 ) baptizing (5723 ). * The next day John seeth (5719 ) Jesus coming (5740 ) unto him , and saith (5719 ), Behold the Lamb of God , which taketh away (5723 ) the sin of the world . * This is he (5748 ) of whom I said (5627 ), After me cometh (5736 ) a man which is preferred (5754 ) before me : for he was (5713 ) before me .
