* And they asked (5656 ) him , and said (5627 ) unto him , Why baptizest thou (5719 ) then , if thou be (5748 ) not that Christ , nor Elias , neither that prophet ? * John answered (5662 ) them , saying (5723 ), I baptize (5719 ) with water : but there standeth one (5707 ) (5758 ) among you , whom ye know (5758 ) not ; * He it is (5748 ), who coming (5740 ) after me is preferred (5754 ) before me , whose shoes latchet I am (5748 ) not worthy to unloose (5661 ). * These things were done (5633 ) in Bethabara beyond Jordan , where John was (5713 ) baptizing (5723 ).
