lont@John:11:1 @ Now, one Lazarus, of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha, was sick.

lont@John:11:2 @ (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with balsam, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

lont@John:11:3 @ The sisters, therefore, sent to tell Jesus, Master, lo! he whom you love, is sick.

lont@John:11:4 @ Jesus hearing it, said,

lont@John:11:5 @ Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

lont@John:11:6 @ Having, then, heard that he was sick, Jesus staid two days in the place where he was.

lont@John:11:7 @ Afterward, he said to the disciples,

lont@John:11:8 @ The disciples answered, Rabbi, but very lately the Jews would have stoned you, and you would return thither?

lont@John:11:9 @ Jesus replied,

lont@John:11:10" />

lont@John:11:11 @ Having spoken this, he added,

lont@John:11:12 @ Then said his disciples, Master, if he sleep, he will recover.

lont@John:11:13 @ Jesus spoke of his death; but they thought that he spoke of the repose of sleep.

lont@John:11:14 @ Then Jesus told them plainly,

lont@John:11:15" />

lont@John:11:16 @ Then Thomas, that is, Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, Let us go, that we may die with him.

lont@John:11:17 @ When Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had been already four days in the tomb.

lont@John:11:18 @ Now, (Bethany being about fifteen furlongs from Jerusalem,)

lont@John:11:19 @ many of the Jews came to Martha, and Mary, to comfort them on the death of their brother.

lont@John:11:20 @ Martha having heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him; but Mary remained in the house.

lont@John:11:21 @ Then Martha said to Jesus, Master, if you had been here, my brother had not died.

lont@John:11:22 @ But I know that even now, whatever you shall ask of God, God will give you.

lont@John:11:23 @ Jesus said to her,

lont@John:11:24 @ Martha replied, I know that he will rise at the resurrection, on the last day.

lont@John:11:25 @ Jesus said to her,

lont@John:11:26" />

lont@John:11:27 @ She answered, Yes, Master, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, He who comes into the world.

lont@John:11:28 @ Having said this, she went and called Mary, her sister, aside, saying, The Teacher is come, and calls for you.

lont@John:11:29 @ When Mary heard this, she instantly rose and went to him.

lont@John:11:30 @ Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

lont@John:11:31 @ The Jews, then, who were condoling with Mary in the house, when they saw that she arose hastily, and went out, followed her, saying, She is going to the tomb to weep there.

lont@John:11:32 @ Mary being come to the place where Jesus was, and seeing him, threw herself at his feet, saying, Had you be here, Master, my brother had not died.

lont@John:11:33 @ When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping, who came with her, he groaned deeply, and was troubled,

lont@John:11:34 @ and said, They answered, and said, Master, come and see.

lont@John:11:35 @ Jesus wept.

lont@John:11:36 @ The Jews, therefore, said, Mark how he loved him.

lont@John:11:37 @ But some of them said, Could not he who gave sight to the blind man, even have prevented this man's death?

lont@John:11:38 @ Jesus, therefore, again, groaning, came to the tomb. It was a cave, the entrance of which was shut up with a stone.

lont@John:11:39 @ Jesus said, Martha, the sister of the deceased, answered, Sir, by this time, the smell is offensive, for this is the fourth day.

lont@John:11:40 @ Jesus replied,

lont@John:11:41 @ Then they removed the stone. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said,

lont@John:11:43 @ After these words, raising his voice, he cried,

lont@John:11:44 @ He who had been dead, came forth, bound hand and foot with fillets, and his face wrapped in a handkerchief. Jesus said to them,

lont@John:11:45 @ Many, therefore, of the Jews, who had come to Mary, and seen what he did, believed on him.

lont@John:11:46 @ But some of the repaired to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
