* There was (5713 ) a man of the Pharisees , named Nicodemus , a ruler of the Jews : * The same came (5627 ) to Jesus by night , and said (5627 ) unto him , Rabbi , we know (5758 ) that thou art a teacher come (5754 ) from God : for no man can (5736 ) do (5721 ) these miracles that thou doest (5719 ), except God be (5753 ) with him . * Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto thee , Except a man be born (5686 ) again , he cannot (5736 ) see (5629 ) the kingdom of God . * Nicodemus saith (5719 ) unto him , How can (5736 ) a man be born (5683 ) when he is (5752 ) old ? can (5736 ) he enter (5629 ) the second time into his mothers womb , and be born (5683 )? * Jesus answered (5662 ), Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto thee , Except a man be born (5686 ) of water and of the Spirit , he cannot (5736 ) enter (5629 ) into the kingdom of God . * That which is born (5772 ) of the flesh is (5748 ) flesh ; and that which is born (5772 ) of the Spirit is (5748 ) spirit . * Marvel (5661 ) not that I said (5627 ) unto thee , Ye must (5748 ) be born (5683 ) again . * The wind bloweth (5719 ) where it listeth (5719 ), and thou hearest (5719 ) the sound thereof , but canst not tell (5758 ) whence it cometh (5736 ), and whither it goeth (5719 ): so is (5748 ) every one that is born (5772 ) of the Spirit . * Nicodemus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , How can (5736 ) these things be (5635 )? * Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Art (5748 ) thou a master of Israel , and knowest (5719 ) not these things ? * Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto thee , We speak (5719 ) that we do know (5758 ), and testify (5719 ) that we have seen (5758 ); and ye receive (5719 ) not our witness . * If I have told (5627 ) you earthly things , and ye believe (5719 ) not , how shall ye believe (5692 ), if I tell (5632 ) you of heavenly things ? * And no man hath ascended up (5758 ) to heaven , but he that came down (5631 ) from heaven , even the Son of man which is (5752 ) in heaven . * And as Moses lifted up (5656 ) the serpent in the wilderness , even so must (5748 ) the Son of man be lifted up (5683 ): * That whosoever believeth (5723 ) in him should not perish (5643 ), but have (5725 ) eternal life . * For God so loved (5656 ) the world , that he gave (5656 ) his only begotten Son , that whosoever believeth (5723 ) in him should not perish (5643 ), but have (5725 ) everlasting life . * For God sent (5656 ) not his Son into the world to condemn (5725 ) the world ; but that the world through him might be saved (5686 ). * He that believeth (5723 ) on him is not condemned (5743 ): but he that believeth (5723 ) not is condemned (5769 ) already , because he hath not believed (5758 ) in the name of the only begotten Son of God . * And this is (5748 ) the condemnation , that light is come (5754 ) into the world , and men loved (5656 ) darkness rather than light , because their deeds were (5713 ) evil . * For every one that doeth (5723 ) evil hateth (5719 ) the light , neither cometh (5736 ) to the light , lest his deeds should be reproved (5686 ). * But he that doeth (5723 ) truth cometh (5736 ) to the light , that his deeds may be made manifest (5686 ), that they are (5748 ) wrought (5772 ) in God .
