* And Jesus answered , A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho , and fell among robbers , who stripped him of his clothing , and wounded him , and departed , leaving him half dead . * And by chance a certain priest came down that way : and when he saw him , he passed by on the other side . * And likewise a Levite , when he came to that place and saw him , passed by on the other side . * But a certain Samaritan , as he traveled , came where he was : and when he saw him , he had compassion on him , * And went to him , and bound up his wounds , pouring on oil and wine , and set him on his own beast , and brought him to an inn , and took care of him . * And on the next day , when he departed , he took out two denarii , and gave them to the innkeeper , and said to him , Take care of him ; and whatever more you spend , when I come again , I will repay you . * Now which of these three , do you think , was a neighbour to him who fell among the robbers ? * And he said , He who showed mercy on him . Then Jesus said to him , Go , and do likewise .
