noyes@Luke:20:1 @ And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and publishing the good tidings, that the priests and the scribes with the elders came upon him,

noyes@Luke:20:2 @ and spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? Or who is he that gave thee this authority?

noyes@Luke:20:3 @ And he answering said to them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me:

noyes@Luke:20:4 @ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

noyes@Luke:20:5 @ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, he will say, Why did ye not believe him?

noyes@Luke:20:6 @ But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

noyes@Luke:20:7 @ And they answered, that they did not know whence it was.

noyes@Luke:20:8 @ And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
