* And it came to pass (5633 ) on the second sabbath after the first , that he went (5738 ) through the corn fields ; and his disciples plucked (5707 ) the ears of corn , and did eat (5707 ), rubbing (5723 ) them in their hands . * And certain of the Pharisees said (5627 ) unto them , Why do ye (5719 ) that which is not lawful (5748 ) to do (5721 ) on the sabbath days ? * And Jesus answering (5679 ) them said (5627 ), Have ye not read (5627 ) so much as this , what David did (5656 ), when himself was an hungred (5656 ), and they which were (5752 ) with him ; * How he went (5627 ) into the house of God , and did take (5627 ) and eat (5627 ) the shewbread , and gave (5656 ) also to them that were with him ; which it is not lawful (5748 ) to eat (5629 ) but for the priests alone ? * And he said (5707 ) unto them , That the Son of man is (5748 ) Lord also of the sabbath . * And it came to pass (5633 ) also on another sabbath , that he entered (5629 ) into the synagogue and taught (5721 ): and there was (5713 ) a man whose right hand was (5713 ) withered . * And the scribes and Pharisees watched (5707 ) him , whether he would heal (5692 ) on the sabbath day ; that they might find (5632 ) an accusation against him . * But he knew (5715 ) their thoughts , and said (5627 ) to the man which had (5723 ) the withered hand , Rise up (5669 ), and stand forth (5628 ) in the midst . And he arose (5631 ) and stood forth (5627 ). * Then said (5627 ) Jesus unto them , I will ask (5692 ) you one thing ; Is it lawful (5748 ) on the sabbath days to do good (5658 ), or to do evil (5658 )? to save (5658 ) life , or to destroy (5658 ) it ? * And looking round about upon (5671 ) them all , he said (5627 ) unto the man , Stretch forth (5657 ) thy hand . And he did (5656 ) so : and his hand was restored (5681 ) whole as the other . * And they were filled (5681 ) with madness ; and communed (5707 ) one with another what they might do (5659 ) to Jesus . * And it came to pass (5633 ) in those days , that he went out (5627 ) into a mountain to pray (5664 ), and continued all night (5723 ) (5713 ) in prayer to God . * And when it was (5633 ) day , he called (5656 ) unto him his disciples : and of them he chose (5671 ) twelve , whom also he named (5656 ) apostles ; * Simon , (whom he also named (5656 ) Peter ,) and Andrew his brother , James and John , Philip and Bartholomew , * Matthew and Thomas , James the son of Alphaeus , and Simon called (5746 ) Zelotes , * And Judas the brother of James , and Judas Iscariot , which also was (5633 ) the traitor . * And he came down (5631 ) with them , and stood (5627 ) in the plain , and the company of his disciples , d a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem , and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon , which came (5627 ) to hear (5658 ) him , and to be healed (5683 ) of their diseases ; * And they that were vexed (5746 ) with unclean spirits : and they were healed (5712 ). * And the whole multitude sought (5707 ) to touch (5733 ) him : for there went (5711 ) virtue out of him , and healed (5711 ) them all . * And he lifted up (5660 ) his eyes on his disciples , and said (5707 ), Blessed be ye poor : for yours is (5748 ) the kingdom of God . * Blessed are ye that hunger (5723 ) now : for ye shall be filled (5701 ). Blessed are ye that weep (5723 ) now : for ye shall laugh (5692 ). * Blessed are ye (5748 ), when men shall hate (5661 ) you , and when they shall separate (5661 ) you from their company , and shall reproach (5661 ) you , and cast out (5632 ) your name as evil , for the Son of mans sake . * Rejoice ye (5720 ) in that day , and leap for joy (5657 ): for , behold (5628 ), your reward is great in heaven : for in the like manner did (5707 ) their fathers unto the prophets . * But woe unto you that are rich ! for ye have received (5719 ) your consolation . * Woe unto you that are full (5772 )! for ye shall hunger (5692 ). Woe unto you that laugh (5723 ) now ! for ye shall mourn (5692 ) and weep (5692 ). * Woe unto you , when all men shall speak (5632 ) well of you ! for so did (5707 ) their fathers to the false prophets .
