* Now it happened that while he was praying by himself , the disciples were with him , and he asked them a question . "Who do the crowd think I am ?" * "Johnthe Baptist ," they answered , "But others say Elijah , and others that one of the ancient prophets is risen again ." * Then he said to them , "But who do you say I am ? Then Peter answered saying , "The Christ of God . * Then he strictly forbade them to tell this to any one ; * and he said , "The Son of man must suffer much , and be restricted by the elders and high priests and scribes and be put to death , and on the third day be raised again ." * And he said to all . "If any man wills to follow me , Let him renounce self and take up his cross daily and follow me . * "For whoever wills to save his life shall lose it ; and whoever loses his life for my sake shall save it . * "For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself ? * "For whoever is ashamed of me and of my teachings , of him shall the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his own and in his Fathers glory , and in that of the holy angels . * "But I tell you truly there are some of those standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God ."
