* Then they sent to him some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to entrap him in his talk . * When they came , they said to him , "Teacher , we know that you are true and are not afraid of any one ; for you do not look at the social standing of men , but you teach the way of God in truth . Is it right to pay tribute to Caesar or not ? * Shall we pay or shall we not pay ?" But he , knowing their hypocrisy , said to them , * They brought one . Then he said , They said to him , "Caesar 's ." * Jesus said to them , They were astonished at him .
