* And Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary , of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ . * So all the generations from Abraham till David [were ] fourteen generations , from David until the captivity in Babylon [were ] fourteen generations , and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ [were ] fourteen generations . * Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this : After His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph , before they came together , she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit .
