* When Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi , he asked his disciples , saying , Whom do men say that I the Son of man am ? * And they said , Some [say that thou art ] John the Baptist ; some , Elijah ; and others , Jeremiah or one of the prophets . * He said unto them , But whom say ye that I am ? * And Simon Peter answered and said , Thou art the Christ , the Son of the living God . * And Jesus answered and said unto him , Blessed art thou , Simon son of Jonah , for flesh and blood has not revealed [it ] unto thee , but my Father who is in the heavens . * And I say also unto thee , That thou art Peter , [a small rock ] and upon the [large ] rock I will build my church , and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her . * And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens , and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens , and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven . * Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ .
