* And it came to pass (5633 ), when Jesus had finished (5656 ) all these sayings , he said (5627 ) unto his disciples , * Ye know (5758 ) that after two days is (5736 ) the feast of the passover , and the Son of man is betrayed (5743 ) to be crucified (5683 ). * Then assembled together (5681 ) the chief priests , and the scribes , and the elders of the people , unto the palace of the high priest , who was called (5746 ) Caiaphas , * And consulted (5668 ) that they might take (5661 ) Jesus by subtilty , and kill (5725 ) him . * But they said (5707 ), Not on the feast day , lest there be (5638 ) an uproar among the people . * Now when Jesus was (5637 ) in Bethany , in the house of Simon the leper , * There came (5627 ) unto him a woman having (5723 ) an alabaster box of very precious ointment , and poured it (5656 ) on his head , as he sat (5740 ) at meat . * But when his disciples saw (5631 ) it , they had indignation (5656 ), saying (5723 ), To what purpose is this waste ? * For this ointment might (5711 ) have been sold (5683 ) for much , and given (5683 ) to the poor . * When Jesus understood (5631 ) it , he said (5627 ) unto them , Why trouble ye (5719 ) the woman ? for she hath wrought (5662 ) a good work upon me . * For ye have (5719 ) the poor always with you ; but me ye have (5719 ) not always . * For in that she (5625 ) hath poured (5631 ) this ointment on my body , she did (5656 ) it for my burial (5658 ). * Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached (5686 ) in the whole world , there shall also this , that this woman (5625 ) hath done (5656 ), be told (5701 ) for a memorial of her . * Then one of the twelve , called (5746 ) Judas Iscariot , went (5679 ) unto the chief priests , * And said (5627 ) unto them , What will ye (5719 ) give (5629 ) me , and I will deliver (5692 ) him unto you ? And they covenanted (5627 ) with him for thirty pieces of silver . * And from that time he sought (5707 ) opportunity to betray (5632 ) him . * Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came (5656 ) to Jesus , saying (5723 ) unto him , Where wilt thou (5719 ) that we prepare (5661 ) for thee to eat (5629 ) the passover ? * And he said (5627 ), Go (5720 ) into the city to such a man , and say (5628 ) unto him , The Master saith (5719 ), My time is (5748 ) at hand ; I will keep (5719 ) the passover at thy house with my disciples . * And the disciples did (5656 ) as Jesus had appointed (5656 ) them ; and they made ready (5656 ) the passover .
