* Now he that betrayed (5723 ) him gave (5656 ) them a sign , saying (5723 ), Whomsoever I shall kiss (5661 ), that same is (5748 ) he : hold him fast (5657 ). * And forthwith he came (5631 ) to Jesus , and said (5627 ), Hail (5720 ), master ; and kissed (5656 ) him . * And Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Friend , wherefore art thou come (5748 )? Then came they (5631 ), and laid (5627 ) hands on Jesus , and took (5656 ) him . * And , behold (5628 ), one of them which were with Jesus stretched out (5660 ) his hand , and drew (5656 ) his sword , and struck (5660 ) a servant of the high priests , and smote off (5627 ) his ear . * Then said (5719 ) Jesus unto him , Put up again (5657 ) thy sword into his place : for all they that take (5631 ) the sword shall perish (5698 ) with the sword . * Thinkest thou (5719 ) that I cannot (5736 ) now pray (5658 ) to my Father , and he shall presently give (5692 ) me more than twelve legions of angels ? * But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled (5686 ), that thus it must (5748 ) be (5635 )? * In that same hour said (5627 ) Jesus to the multitudes , Are ye come out (5627 ) as against a thief with swords and staves for to take (5629 ) me ? I sat (5711 ) daily with you teaching (5723 ) in the temple , and ye laid no hold (5656 ) on me . * But all this was done (5754 ), that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled (5686 ). Then all the disciples forsook (5631 ) him , and fled (5627 ). * And they that had laid hold (5660 ) on Jesus led him away (5627 ) to Caiaphas the high priest , where the scribes and the elders were assembled (5681 ). * But Peter followed (5707 ) him afar off unto the high priests palace , and went (5631 ) in , and sat (5711 ) with the servants , to see (5629 ) the end . * Now the chief priests , and elders , and all the council , sought (5707 ) false witness against Jesus , to put him to death (5661 );
