* And on the next day , that following the day of the preparation , the chief priests and the Pharisees came together to Pilate , * saying , Sir , we remember that that deceiver said , while he was yet alive , After three days I rise . * Command therefore that the sepulchre be made secure until the third day , lest his disciples come and steal him away , and say to the people , He hath risen from the dead ; and the last error will be worse than the first . * Pilate said to them , Ye have a guard ; go , make it as secure as ye know how . * And they went , and made the sepulchre secure , sealing the stone , and setting the guard .
