* And when the tempter (5723 ) came (5631 ) to him , he said (5627 ), If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , command (5628 ) that these stones be made (5638 ) bread . * But he answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), It is written (5769 ), Man shall not live (5695 ) by bread alone , but by every word that proceedeth (5740 ) out of the mouth of God . * Then the devil taketh him up (5719 ) into the holy city , and setteth (5719 ) him on a pinnacle of the temple , * And saith (5719 ) unto him , If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , cast (5628 ) thyself down : for it is written (5769 ), He shall give his angels charge (5699 ) concerning thee : and in their hands they shall bear thee up (5692 ), lest at any time thou dash (5661 ) thy foot against a stone .
