* And when you fast , do not be as the hypocrites , darkening the face , for they disfigure their faces so that they may appear to men to be fasting . Truly I say to you that they have their reward . * But you in fasting , anoint your head and wash your face , * so as not to appear to men to be fasting , but to your Father in secret . And your Father seeing in secret will repay you in the open .
