* And there came (5627 ) one of the seven angels which had (5723 ) the seven vials , and talked (5656 ) with me , saying (5723 ) unto me , Come hither (5773 ); I will shew (5692 ) unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth (5740 ) upon many waters : * With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication (5656 ), and the inhabitants (5723 ) of the earth have been made drunk (5681 ) with the wine of her fornication . * So he carried me away (5656 ) in the spirit into the wilderness : and I saw (5627 ) a woman sit (5740 ) upon a scarlet coloured beast , full of (5723 ) names of blasphemy , having (5723 ) seven heads and ten horns . * And the woman was (5713 ) arrayed (5772 ) in purple and scarlet colour , and decked (5772 ) with gold and precious stones and pearls , having (5723 ) a golden cup in her hand full of (5723 ) abominations and filthiness of her fornication : * And upon her forehead was a name written (5772 ), MYSTERY , BABYLON THE GREAT , THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH . * And I saw (5627 ) the woman drunken (5723 ) with the blood of the saints , and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus : and when I saw (5631 ) her , I wondered (5656 ) with great admiration . * And the angel said (5627 ) unto me , Wherefore didst thou marvel (5656 )? I will tell (5692 ) thee the mystery of the woman , and of the beast that carrieth (5723 ) her , which hath (5723 ) the seven heads and ten horns . * The beast that thou sawest (5627 ) was (5713 ), and is (5748 ) not ; and shall (5719 ) ascend (5721 ) out of the bottomless pit , and go (5721 ) into perdition : and they that dwell (5723 ) on the earth shall wonder (5695 ), whose names were not written (5769 ) in the book of life from the foundation of the world when they behold (5723 ) the beast that was (5713 ), and is (5748 ) not , and yet is (5748 ). * And here is the mind which hath (5723 ) wisdom . The seven heads are (5748 ) seven mountains , on which the woman sitteth (5736 ). * And there are (5748 ) seven kings : five are fallen (5627 ), and one is (5748 ), and the other is not yet come (5627 ); and when he cometh (5632 ), he must (5748 ) continue (5658 ) a short space . * And the beast that was (5713 ), and is (5748 ) not , even he is (5748 ) the eighth , and is (5748 ) of the seven , and goeth (5719 ) into perdition . * And the ten horns which thou sawest (5627 ) are (5748 ) ten kings , which have received (5627 ) no kingdom as yet ; but receive (5719 ) power as kings one hour with the beast . * These have (5719 ) one mind , and shall give (5719 ) their power and strength unto the beast . * These shall make war (5692 ) with the Lamb , and the Lamb shall overcome (5692 ) them : for he is (5748 ) Lord of lords , and King of kings : and they that are with him are called , and chosen , and faithful . * And he saith (5719 ) unto me , The waters which thou sawest (5627 ), where the whore sitteth (5736 ), are (5748 ) peoples , and multitudes , and nations , and tongues . * And the ten horns which thou sawest (5627 ) upon the beast , these shall hate (5692 ) the whore , and shall make (5692 ) her desolate (5772 ) and naked , and shall eat (5688 ) her flesh , and burn (5692 ) her with fire . * For God hath put (5656 ) in their hearts to fulfil (5658 ) his will , and to agree (5658 ) , and give (5629 ) their kingdom unto the beast , until the words of God shall be fulfilled (5686 ). * And the woman which thou sawest (5627 ) is (5748 ) that great city , which reigneth (5723 ) over the kings of the earth . * And after these things I saw (5627 ) another angel come down (5723 ) from heaven , having (5723 ) great power ; and the earth was lightened (5681 ) with his glory . * And he cried (5656 ) mightily with a strong voice , saying (5723 ), Babylon the great is fallen (5627 ), is fallen (5627 ), and is become (5633 ) the habitation of devils , and the hold of every foul spirit , and a cage of every unclean and hateful (5772 ) bird . * For all nations have drunk (5758 ) of the wine of the wrath of her fornication , and the kings of the earth have committed fornication (5656 ) with her , and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich (5656 ) through the abundance of her delicacies . * And I heard (5656 ) another voice from heaven , saying (5723 ), Come (5628 ) out of her , my people , that ye be not partakers (5661 ) of her sins , and that ye receive (5632 ) not of her plagues . * For her sins have reached (5656 ) (5625 ) (5681 ) unto heaven , and God hath remembered (5656 ) her iniquities . * Reward (5628 ) her even as she (5625 ) rewarded (5656 ) you , and double (5657 ) unto her double according to her works : in the cup which she hath filled (5656 ) fill (5657 ) to her double . * How much she hath glorified (5656 ) herself , and lived deliciously (5656 ), so much torment and sorrow give (5628 ) her : for she saith (5719 ) in her heart , I sit (5736 ) a queen , and am (5748 ) no widow , and shall see (5632 ) no sorrow . * Therefore shall her plagues come (5692 ) in one day , death , and mourning , and famine ; and she shall be utterly burned (5701 ) with fire : for strong is the Lord God who judgeth (5723 ) her . * And the kings of the earth , who have committed fornication (5660 ) and lived deliciously (5660 ) with her , shall bewail (5695 ) her , and lament (5695 ) for her , when they shall see (5725 ) the smoke of her burning , * Standing (5761 ) afar off for the fear of her torment , saying (5723 ), Alas , alas , that great city Babylon , that mighty city ! for in one hour is thy judgment come (5627 ). * And the merchants of the earth shall weep (5719 ) and mourn (5719 ) over her ; for no man buyeth (5719 ) their merchandise any more : * The merchandise of gold , and silver , and precious stones , and of pearls , and fine linen , and purple , and silk , and scarlet , and all thyine wood , and all manner vessels of ivory , and all manner vessels of most precious wood , and of brass , and iron , and marble , * And cinnamon , and odours , and ointments , and frankincense , and wine , and oil , and fine flour , and wheat , and beasts , and sheep , and horses , and chariots , and slaves , and souls of men . * And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed (5627 ) from thee , and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed (5627 ) from thee , and thou shalt find (5661 ) them no more at all . * The merchants of these things , which were made rich (5660 ) by her , shall stand (5695 ) afar off for the fear of her torment , weeping (5723 ) and wailing (5723 ), * And saying (5723 ), Alas , alas , that great city , that was clothed in (5772 ) fine linen , and purple , and scarlet , and decked (5772 ) with gold , and precious stones , and pearls ! * For in one hour so great riches is come to nought (5681 ). And every shipmaster , and all the company in ships , and sailors , and as many as trade (5740 ) by sea , stood (5627 ) afar off , * And cried (5707 ) when they saw (5723 ) the smoke of her burning , saying (5723 ), What city is like unto this great city ! * And they cast (5627 ) dust on their heads , and cried (5707 ), weeping (5723 ) and wailing (5723 ), saying (5723 ), Alas , alas , that great city , wherein were made rich (5656 ) all that had (5723 ) ships in the sea by reason of her costliness ! for in one hour is she made desolate (5681 ). * Rejoice (5744 ) over her , thou heaven , and ye holy apostles and prophets ; for God hath avenged (5656 ) you on her . * And a mighty angel took up (5656 ) a stone like a great millstone , and cast (5627 ) it into the sea , saying (5723 ), Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down (5701 ), and shall be found (5686 ) no more at all . * And the voice of harpers , and musicians , and of pipers , and trumpeters , shall be heard (5686 ) no more at all in thee ; and no craftsman , of whatsoever craft he be , shall be found (5686 ) any more in thee ; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard (5686 ) no more at all in thee ; * And the light of a candle shall shine (5652 ) no more at all in thee ; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard (5686 ) no more at all in thee : for thy merchants were (5713 ) the great men of the earth ; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived (5681 ). * And in her was found (5681 ) the blood of prophets , and of saints , and of all that were slain (5772 ) upon the earth . * And after these things I heard (5656 ) a great voice of much people in heaven , saying (5723 ), Alleluia ; Salvation , and glory , and honour , and power , unto the Lord our God :
