* Paul , a servant of Jesus Christ , called to be an apostle , separated (5772 ) unto the gospel of God , * (Which he had promised afore (5662 ) by his prophets in the holy scriptures ,) * Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord , which was made (5637 ) of the seed of David according to the flesh ; * And declared (5685 ) to be the Son of God with power , according to the spirit of holiness , by the resurrection from the dead : * By whom we have received (5627 ) grace and apostleship , for obedience to the faith among all nations , for his name : * Among whom are (5748 ) ye also the called of Jesus Christ : * To all that be (5752 ) in Rome , beloved of God , called to be saints : Grace to you and peace from God our Father , and the Lord Jesus Christ . * First , I thank (5719 ) my God through Jesus Christ for you all , that your faith is spoken (5743 ) of throughout the whole world . * For God is (5748 ) my witness , whom I serve (5719 ) with my spirit in the gospel of his Son , that without ceasing I make (5731 ) mention of you always in my prayers ; * Making request (5740 ), if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey (5701 ) by the will of God to come (5629 ) unto you . * For I long (5719 ) to see (5629 ) you , that I may impart (5632 ) unto you some spiritual gift , to the end ye may be established (5683 ); * That is (5748 ), that I may be comforted together (5683 ) with you by the mutual faith both of you and me . * Now I would (5719 ) not have you ignorant (5721 ), brethren , that oftentimes I purposed (5639 ) to come (5629 ) unto you , (but was let (5681 ) hitherto ,) that I might have (5632 ) some fruit among you also , even as among other Gentiles . * I am (5748 ) debtor both to the Greeks , and to the Barbarians ; both to the wise , and to the unwise . * So , as much as in me is , I am ready to preach the gospel (5670 ) to you that are at Rome also . * For I am not ashamed (5736 ) of the gospel of Christ : for it is (5748 ) the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth (5723 ); to the Jew first , and also to the Greek . * For therein is the righteousness of God revealed (5743 ) from faith to faith : as it is written (5769 ), The just shall live (5695 ) by faith . * For the wrath of God is revealed (5743 ) from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men , who hold (5723 ) the truth in unrighteousness ; * Because that which may be known of God is (5748 ) manifest in them ; for God hath shewed (5656 ) it unto them . * For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen (5743 ), being understood (5746 ) by the things that are made , even his eternal power and Godhead ; so that they are (5750 ) without excuse : * Because that , when they knew (5631 ) God , they glorified (5656 ) him not as God , neither were thankful (5656 ); but became vain (5681 ) in their imaginations , and their foolish heart was darkened (5681 ). * Professing themselves (5723 ) to be (5750 ) wise , they became fools (5681 ), * And changed (5656 ) the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man , and to birds , and fourfooted beasts , and creeping things . * Wherefore God also gave them up (5656 ) to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts , to dishonour (5729 ) their own bodies between themselves : * Who changed (5656 ) the truth of God into a lie , and worshipped (5662 ) and served (5656 ) the creature more than the Creator (5660 ), who is (5748 ) blessed for ever . Amen . * For this cause God gave them up (5656 ) unto vile affections : for even their women did change (5656 ) the natural use into that which is against nature : * And likewise also the men , leaving (5631 ) the natural use of the woman , burned (5681 ) in their lust one toward another ; men with men working (5740 ) that which is unseemly , and receiving (5723 ) in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet (5713 ). * And even as they did not like (5656 ) to retain (5721 ) God in their knowledge , God gave them over (5656 ) to a reprobate mind , to do (5721 ) those things which are not convenient (5723 ); * Being filled with (5772 ) all unrighteousness , fornication , wickedness , covetousness , maliciousness ; full of envy , murder , debate , deceit , malignity ; whisperers , * Backbiters , haters of God , despiteful , proud , boasters , inventors of evil things , disobedient to parents , * Without understanding , covenantbreakers , without natural affection , implacable , unmerciful : * Who knowing (5631 ) the judgment of God , that they which commit (5723 ) such things are (5748 ) worthy of death , not only do (5719 ) the same , but have pleasure (5719 ) in them that do (5723 ) them . * Therefore thou art (5748 ) inexcusable , O man , whosoever thou art that judgest (5723 ): for wherein thou judgest (5719 ) another , thou condemnest (5719 ) thyself ; for thou that judgest (5723 ) doest (5719 ) the same things . * But we are sure (5758 ) that the judgment of God is (5748 ) according to truth against them which commit (5723 ) such things . * And thinkest thou (5736 ) this , O man , that judgest (5723 ) them which do (5723 ) such things , and doest (5723 ) the same , that thou shalt escape (5695 ) the judgment of God ? * Or despisest thou (5719 ) the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering ; not knowing (5723 ) that the goodness of God leadeth (5719 ) thee to repentance ? * But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up (5719 ) unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God ; * Who will render (5692 ) to every man according to his deeds : * To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek (5723 ) for glory and honour and immortality , eternal life : * But unto them that are contentious , and do not obey (5723 ) the truth , but obey (5734 ) unrighteousness , indignation and wrath , * Tribulation and anguish , upon every soul of man that doeth (5740 ) evil , of the Jew first , and also of the Gentile ; * But glory , honour , and peace , to every man that worketh (5740 ) good , to the Jew first , and also to the Gentile : * For there is (5748 ) no respect of persons with God . * For as many as have sinned (5627 ) without law shall also perish (5698 ) without law : and as many as have sinned (5627 ) in the law shall be judged (5701 ) by the law ; * (For not the hearers of the law are just before God , but the doers of the law shall be justified (5701 ). * For when the Gentiles , which have (5723 ) not the law , do (5725 ) by nature the things contained in the law , these , having (5723 ) not the law , are (5748 ) a law unto themselves : * Which shew (5731 ) the work of the law written in their hearts , their conscience also bearing witness (5723 ), and their thoughts the mean while accusing (5723 ) or else excusing (5740 ) one another ;) * In the day when God shall judge (5692 ) (5719 ) the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel . * Behold , thou art called (5743 ) a Jew , and restest (5736 ) in the law , and makest thy boast (5736 ) of God , * And knowest (5719 ) his will , and approvest (5719 ) the things that are more excellent (5723 ), being instructed (5746 ) out of the law ; * And art confident (5754 ) that thou thyself art (5750 ) a guide of the blind , a light of them which are in darkness , * An instructor of the foolish , a teacher of babes , which hast (5723 ) the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law . * Thou therefore which teachest (5723 ) another , teachest thou (5719 ) not thyself ? thou that preachest (5723 ) a man should not steal (5721 ), dost thou steal (5719 )? * Thou that sayest (5723 ) a man should not commit adultery (5721 ), dost thou commit adultery (5719 )? thou that abhorrest (5740 ) idols , dost thou commit sacrilege (5719 )? * Thou that makest thy boast (5736 ) of the law , through breaking the law dishonourest thou (5719 ) God ? * For the name of God is blasphemed (5743 ) among the Gentiles through you , as it is written (5769 ). * For circumcision verily profiteth (5719 ), if thou keep (5725 ) the law : but if thou be (5753 ) a breaker of the law , thy circumcision is made (5754 ) uncircumcision . * Therefore if the uncircumcision keep (5725 ) the righteousness of the law , shall not his uncircumcision be counted (5701 ) for circumcision ? * And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature , if it fulfil (5723 ) the law , judge (5692 ) thee , who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law ? * For he is (5748 ) not a Jew , which is one outwardly ; neither is that circumcision , which is outward in the flesh : * But he is a Jew , which is one inwardly ; and circumcision is that of the heart , in the spirit , and not in the letter ; whose praise is not of men , but of God . * What advantage then hath the Jew ? or what profit is there of circumcision ? * Much every way : chiefly , because that unto them were committed (5681 ) the oracles of God . * For what if some did not believe (5656 )? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect (5692 )? * God forbid (5636 ): yea , let God be (5737 ) true , but every man a liar ; as it is written (5769 ), That thou mightest be justified (5686 ) in thy sayings , and mightest overcome (5661 ) when thou art judged (5745 ). * But if our unrighteousness commend (5719 ) the righteousness of God , what shall we say (5692 )? Is God unrighteous who taketh (5723 ) vengeance ? (I speak (5719 ) as a man ) * God forbid (5636 ): for then how shall God judge (5692 ) (5719 ) the world ? * For if the truth of God hath more abounded (5656 ) through my lie unto his glory ; why yet am I also judged (5743 ) as a sinner ? * And not rather , (as we be slanderously reported (5743 ), and as some affirm (5748 ) that we say (5721 ),) Let us do (5661 ) evil , that good may come (5632 )? whose damnation is (5748 ) just . * What then ? are we better (5736 ) than they ? No , in no wise : for we have before proved (5662 ) both Jews and Gentiles , that they are (5750 ) all nder sin ; * As it is written (5769 ), There is (5748 ) none righteous , no , not one : * There is (5748 ) none that understandeth (5723 ), there is (5748 ) none that seeketh after (5723 ) God . * They are all gone out of the way (5656 ), they are together become unprofitable (5681 ); there is (5748 ) none that doeth (5723 ) good , no , not one (5748 ) . * Their throat is an open (5772 ) sepulchre ; with their tongues they have used deceit (5707 ); the poison of asps is under their lips : * Whose mouth is full (5719 ) of cursing and bitterness : * Their feet are swift to shed (5658 ) blood : * Destruction and misery are in their ways : * And the way of peace have they not known (5627 ): * There is (5748 ) no fear of God before their eyes . * Now we know (5758 ) that what things soever the law saith (5719 ), it saith (5719 ) to them who are under the law : that every mouth may be stopped (5652 ), and all the world may become (5638 ) guilty before God . * Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified (5701 ) in his sight : for by the law is the knowledge of sin . * But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested (5769 ), being witnessed (5746 ) by the law and the prophets ; * Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe (5723 ): for there is (5748 ) no difference : * For all have sinned (5627 ), and come short (5743 ) of the glory of God ; * Being justified (5746 ) freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus : * Whom God hath set forth (5639 ) to be a propitiation through faith in his blood , to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past (5761 ), through the forbearance of God ; * To declare , I say , at this time his righteousness : that he might be (5750 ) just , and the justifier (5723 ) of him which believeth in Jesus . * Where is boasting then ? It is excluded (5681 ). By what law ? of works ? Nay : but by the law of faith . * Therefore we conclude (5736 ) that a man is justified (5745 ) by faith without the deeds of the law . * Is he the God of the Jews only ? is he not also of the Gentiles ? Yes , of the Gentiles also : * Seeing it is one God , which shall justify (5692 ) the circumcision by faith , and uncircumcision through faith . * Do we then make void (5719 ) the law through faith ? God forbid (5636 ): yea , we establish (5719 ) the law . * What shall we say (5692 ) then that Abraham our father , as pertaining to the flesh , hath found (5760 )?
