* I say (5719 ) then , Hath God cast away (5662 ) his people ? God forbid (5636 ). For I also am (5748 ) an Israelite , of the seed of Abraham , of the tribe of Benjamin . * God hath not cast away (5662 ) his people which he foreknew (5656 ). Wot ye (5758 ) not what the scripture saith (5719 ) of Elias ? how he maketh intercession (5719 ) to God against Israel , saying (5723 ), * Lord , they have killed (5656 ) thy prophets , and digged down (5656 ) thine altars ; and I am left (5681 ) alone , and they seek (5719 ) my life . * But what saith (5719 ) the answer of God unto him ? I have reserved (5627 ) to myself seven thousand men , who have not bowed (5656 ) the knee to the image of Baal . * Even so then at this present time also there is (5754 ) a remnant according to the election of grace . * And if by grace , then is it no more of works : otherwise grace is (5736 ) no more grace . But if it be of works , then is it (5748 ) no more grace : otherwise work is (5748 ) no more work . * What then ? Israel hath not obtained (5627 ) that which he seeketh for (5719 ); but the election hath obtained it (5627 ), and the rest were blinded (5681 ) * (According as it is written (5769 ), God hath given (5656 ) them the spirit of slumber , eyes that they should not see (5721 ), and ears that they should not hear (5721 );) unto this day . * And David saith (5719 ), Let their table be made (5676 ) a snare , and a trap , and a stumblingblock , and a recompence unto them : * Let their eyes be darkened (5682 ), that they may not see (5721 ), and bow down (5657 ) their back alway . * I say (5719 ) then , Have they stumbled (5656 ) that they should fall (5632 )? God forbid (5636 ): but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles , for to provoke them to jealousy (5658 ). * Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world , and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles ; how much more their fulness ? * For I speak (5719 ) to you Gentiles , inasmuch as I am (5748 ) the apostle of the Gentiles , I magnify (5719 ) mine office : * If by any means I may provoke to emulation (5661 ) them which are my flesh , and might save (5661 ) some of them . * For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world , what shall the receiving of them be , but life from the dead ? * For if the firstfruit be holy , the lump is also holy : and if the root be holy , so are the branches . * And if some of the branches be broken off (5681 ), and thou , being (5752 ) a wild olive tree , wert graffed in (5681 ) among them , and with them (5633 ) partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree ; * Boast not against (5737 ) the branches . But if thou boast (5736 ), thou bearest (5719 ) not the root , but the root thee . * Thou wilt say (5692 ) then , The branches were broken off (5681 ), that I might be graffed in (5686 ). * Well ; because of unbelief they were broken off (5681 ), and thou standest (5758 ) by faith . Be not highminded (5720 ), but fear (5737 ): * For if God spared (5662 ) not the natural branches , take heed lest he also spare (5667 ) not thee . * Behold (5657 ) therefore the goodness and severity of God : on them which fell (5631 ), severity ; but toward thee , goodness , if thou continue (5661 ) in his goodness : otherwise thou also shalt be cut off (5691 ). * And they also , if they abide (5661 ) not still in unbelief , shall be graffed in (5701 ): for God is (5748 ) able to graff them in (5658 ) again . * For if thou wert cut (5648 ) out of the olive tree which is wild by nature , and wert graffed (5681 ) contrary to nature into a good olive tree : how much more shall these , which be the natural branches , be graffed into (5701 ) their own olive tree ? * For I would (5719 ) not , brethren , that ye should be ignorant (5721 ) of this mystery , lest ye should be (5753 ) wise in your own conceits ; that blindness in part is happened (5754 ) to Israel , until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in (5632 ). * And so all Israel shall be saved (5701 ): as it is written (5769 ), There shall come (5692 ) out of Sion the Deliverer (5740 ), and shall turn away (5692 ) ungodliness from Jacob : * For this is my covenant unto them , when I shall take away (5643 ) their sins . * As concerning the gospel , they are enemies for your sakes : but as touching the election , they are beloved for the fathers sakes . * For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance . * For as ye in times past have not believed (5656 ) God , yet have now obtained mercy (5681 ) through their unbelief : * Even so have these also now not believed (5656 ), that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy (5686 ). * For God hath concluded (5656 ) them all in unbelief , that he might have mercy (5661 ) upon all . * O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God ! how unsearchable are his judgments , and his ways past finding out ! * For who hath known (5627 ) the mind of the Lord ? or who hath been (5633 ) his counsellor ? * Or who hath first given (5656 ) to him , and it shall be recompensed unto him again (5701 )? * For of him , and through him , and to him , are all things : to whom be glory for ever . Amen . * I beseech (5719 ) you therefore , brethren , by the mercies of God , that ye present (5658 ) your bodies a living (5723 ) sacrifice , holy , acceptable unto God , which is your reasonable service . * And be not conformed (5728 ) to this world : but be ye transformed (5744 ) by the renewing of your mind , that ye may prove (5721 ) what is that good , and acceptable , and perfect , will of God . * For I say (5719 ), through the grace given (5685 ) unto me , to every man that is (5752 ) among you , not to think of himself more highly (5721 ) than he ought (5748 ) to think (5721 ); but to think (5721 ) soberly (5721 ), according as God hath dealt (5656 ) to every man the measure of faith . * For as we have (5719 ) many members in one body , and all members have (5719 ) not the same office : * So we , being many , are (5748 ) one body in Christ , and every one members one of another . * Having (5723 ) then gifts differing according to the grace that is given (5685 ) to us , whether prophecy , let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith ; * Or ministry , let us wait on our ministering : or he that teacheth (5723 ), on teaching ; * Or he that exhorteth (5723 ), on exhortation : he that giveth (5723 ), let him do it with simplicity ; he that ruleth (5734 ), with diligence ; he that sheweth mercy (5723 ), with cheerfulness . * Let love (5753 ) be without dissimulation . Abhor (5723 ) that which is evil ; cleave (5746 ) to that which is good . * Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love ; in honour preferring (5740 ) one another ; * Not slothful in business ; fervent (5723 ) in spirit ; serving (5723 ) the Lord ; * Rejoicing (5723 ) in hope ; patient (5723 ) in tribulation ; continuing instant (5723 ) in prayer ; * Distributing (5723 ) to the necessity of saints ; given (5723 ) to hospitality . * Bless (5720 ) them which persecute (5723 ) you : bless (5720 ), and curse (5737 ) not . * Rejoice (5721 ) with them that do rejoice (5723 ), and weep (5721 ) with them that weep (5723 ). * Be of the same mind (5723 ) one toward another . Mind (5723 ) not high things , but condescend (5734 ) to men of low estate . Be (5737 ) not wise in your own conceits . * Recompense (5723 ) to no man evil for evil . Provide (5734 ) things honest in the sight of all men . * If it be possible , as much as lieth in you , live peaceably (5723 ) with all men . * Dearly beloved , avenge (5723 ) not yourselves , but rather give (5628 ) place unto wrath : for it is written (5769 ), Vengeance is mine ; I will repay (5692 ), saith (5719 ) the Lord . * Therefore if thine enemy hunger (5725 ), feed (5720 ) him ; if he thirst (5725 ), give him drink (5720 ): for in so doing (5723 ) thou shalt heap (5692 ) coals of fire on his head . * Be not overcome (5744 ) of evil , but overcome (5720 ) evil with good . * Let every soul be subject (5732 ) unto the higher (5723 ) powers . For there is (5748 ) no power but of God : the powers that be (5752 ) are (5748 ) ordained (5772 ) of God .
