* What shall we say then ? Shall we continue in sin , that grace may abound ? * By no means . How shall we , who are dead to sin , live in it any longer ? * Do you not know , that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death ? * Therefore , we were buried with him by baptism into death : so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father , even so we also might walk in newness of life . * For if we have been united with him by sharing a death like his , so shall we also share a resurrection like his : * Knowing this , that our old man has been crucified with him , that the body of sin might be destroyed , that henceforth we should no longer be enslaved by sin . * For he who has died is freed from sin . * Now if we have died with Christ , we believe that we shall also live with him : * Knowing that Christ , having been raised from the dead , will never die again : death no longer has power over him . * For in his death , he died to sin once for all : but in his life , he lives to God . * In the same way , consider yourselves also to be dead to sin , but alive to God in Christ Jesus . * Therefore , do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies , to make you obey its lusts . * Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness : but yield yourselves to God , as those who are alive from the dead , and your members as instruments of righteousness to God . * For sin shall not be your master : for you are not under the law , but under grace .
