Conquerors often placed their feet on the necks of the victims (Luke:20:43|).

This majestic proclamation of victory over death may be compared with \tetelestai\ ({It is finished}) in strkjv@John:19:30| as Christ died and with Paul's \hupernikmen\ (we are more than conquerors) in strkjv@Romans:8:37|.

Human-looking faces in these demonic locusts to give added terror, "suggesting the intelligence and capacity of man" (Swete). Vincent actually sees "a distinct resemblance to the human countenance in the face of the locust."
