mhcc@Mark:7 @ ****** Mark 7 ****** *** Outline of Mark 7 *** The traditions of the elders. (_1-13.) What defiles the man. (_14-23.) The woman of Canaan's daughter cured. (_24-30.) Christ restores a man to hearing and speech. (_31-37.) *** Commentary ***

mhcc@Mark:7:14-23 @ Verse 14-23 - Our wicked thoughts and affections, words and actions, defile us, and these only. As a corrupt fountain sends forth corrupt streams, so does a corrupt heart send forth corrupt reasonings, corrupt appetites and passions, and all the wicked words and actions that come from them. A spiritual understanding of the law of God, and a sense of the evil of sin, will cause a man to seek for the grace of the Holy Spirit, to keep down the evil thoughts and affections that work within.

mhcc@Mark:13 @ ****** Mark 13 ****** *** Outline of Mark 13 *** The destruction of the temple foretold. (_1-4.) Christ's prophetic declaration. (_5-13.) Christ's prophecy. (_14-23.) His prophetic declarations. (_24-27.) Watchfulness urged. (_28-37.) *** Commentary ***

mhcc@Mark:13:14-23 @ Verse 14-23 - The Jews in rebelling against the Romans, and in persecuting the Christians, hastened their own ruin apace. Here we have a prediction of that ruin which came upon them within less than forty years after this. Such destruction and desolation, that the like cannot be found in any history. Promises of power to persevere, and cautions against falling away, well agree with each other. But the more we consider these things, the more we shall see abundant cause to flee without delay for refuge to Christ, and to renounce every earthly object, for the salvation of our souls.
