• kjv@2Samuel:16:12 It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day. (Don't play into enemies hand - leave in God's hand)


• Critics of today? So what is it that David says of these critics?:

H2194 @ זעם zâ‛am zaw-am' A primitive root; properly to foam at the {mouth} that {is} to be enraged: - {abhor} {abominable} (be) {angry} {defy} (have) indignation.


• WHY?


• "Behold, he (persecutor) travaileth (wind tightly/bind/by pledge) with iniquity (vanity/nothingness)". 7:14 (Absolam's plot behind David's back, inserting himself into the king's business).


• (Using David's own trusted circle and enemies, forging new alliances against God's anointed.


• "(he/persecutor) hath conceived (become pregnant) mischief (wearing effort/grievance)" 7:14 (Absolam making a point to wear at exiled David (personally and reputation) (ie public rape of David's 10 concubines)) (Deliberate defiances (ie moving capitol back to Hebron))


• "(he/persecutor) brought forth (beget) falsehood (sham)" 7:14


• "He (persecutor) made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made'. 7:15 (Absolam - Mistrust of what God was up to (mistrusting oracle/trusting David's planted spy))


• ACTION: "He (GOD) hath bent his bow, and made it ready...":* 7:12


• ACTION: "He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death" 7:13


• "he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors" 7:13


• "His (persecutor) mischief shall return upon his own head" 7:16 (Absolam = hung by his own hair on the great oak in the Woods of Ephraim). (Deserting troops - 20,000+ slain by 3,000 loyalists in one day). (Oracle = hung himself in his secret hide away).


• "His (persecutor) violent dealing (cruel/unjust gain) shall come down upon his own pate (crown of head)" 7:16 (Critics (Shimei/Others today) - David is careful not to play into their hand, takes it as God's buffeting "thorn in the flesh"). (Note: criticism can surface long after the actual historical events and take on facts and figures all their own).


• When God has bent HIS bow there is no telling the pathway the arrow will take but, we know that it is sure to hit it's mark.

• moral evil? unjust? perfect in all regards?


• "If I have rewarded evil (affliction/adversity) unto him that was at peace with me" 7:4


• Peace with Saul? Saul rewarded evil by David?


• Peace with Absolam? Absolam rewarded evil by David?


• Peace with enemies and critics?


• "(yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy)" 7:4


• "Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it" 7:5


• "Yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth" 7:5


• "Lay mine honour in the dust" 7:5


• "If I have done this"?


• A king has a great many things needing to be done.


• David had done somethings in his life that he in his later life had to suffer the consequences of.


• Even though David often lost focus of where God was at currently, he never lost focus of where God is always at ultimately.


• We'd be wise to have a similar focus to our lives as well!






4. "Arise, O LORD...": 7:6
• "In thine anger". 7:6


• What would the LORD have to be angry about?


• "Lift up thyself because of the rage (outburst of passion) of mine enemies (adversary)". 7:6


• Why would God lift HIMSELF up for David? (anointed)


• Why would God lift HIMSELF up for us? (Christ our Lord's anointing)


• Rage/passion often confused for righteousness. (Self's versus God's)


• "Awake for me to the judgment (verdict) that thou hast commanded (constituted)". 7:6


• "So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about" 7:7
