Today's Text:
kjv@Psalms:3:1@ LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
kjv@Psalms:3:2@ Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
kjv@Psalms:3:3@ But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
kjv@Psalms:3:4@ I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
kjv@Psalms:3:5@ I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
kjv@Psalms:3:6@ I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
kjv@Psalms:3:7@ Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
kjv@Psalms:3:8@ Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Today's Audio Commentary: "No Help for Him in God?"
Troubles overwhelmingly increasing right now (People (they) by number).
Many say "There is no help for him in God".
Arise, O LORD; save me... How?
(Smite) all mine enemies upon the cheek bone? (Is this what we are to pray?)
(Break) the teeth of the ungodly? (Is this what we are to pray?)
Mine Enemies... What are they doing? Who are they?
Rise against me.
Because he is king (by God's anointing).
Because he presumes openly to stand for God.
Because he has also been human, made mistakes, sinned greatly, been lax in judgement.
(Many) Say of my soul, there is no help for him in God.
They - not having the experience of God like he has.
They - judging him by the dwindling appearence he is presenting.
They - (Political enemies to hurt him) Knowing that his relationship with God meant the most to him.
They - (Political enemies to hurt him) Engineering public perceptions against him to bring him down.
Set themselves round about me.
Blood in the water - sharks - opportunists.
Blood he started.
A most desparate situation for David/Some saints in leadership
What did he pray?
What did he do?
What was his mindset going into this?
Thou, O LORD, art.... (for me):
Shield (past/present/future)
kjv@Psalms:84:11@ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
kjv@Proverbs:30:5@ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Glory (past/present/future)
kjv@Psalms:24:8@ Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
kjv@Psalms:79:9@ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
Lifter (past/present/future)
kjv@Psalms:28:9@ Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.
kjv@Psalms:27:6@ And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Sustain(er) (past/present/future)
kjv@Psalms:55:22@ Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
(past/present/future)(Not only when troubled and surrounded)
I (What I have done/How now I will be):
I cried unto the LORD with my voice. (Prayer)
For yourself
kjv@Matthew:10:28@ And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
kjv@Matthew:6:33@ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
For others
kjv@John:17:15@ I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
For enemies
kjv@Matthew:5:44@ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
kjv@Luke:23:34@ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
kjv@Acts:7:60@ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
I laid me down and slept. (Trust fully/Surrender anxiety to the character and providence of God)
kjv@Philippians:4:6@ Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
kjv@Psalms:4:8@ I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
I awaked. (Rise to face a new day)
kjv@Psalms:57:8@ Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
(Therefore) I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
note: not much additional action required of God other than to do what He always does, continue being who He is.
Arise/Save:
Eternal salvation vs temporal deliverance.
Thou "hast" (in the past (perhaps all along) (seldom know by me)).
David's outcome at the end of this trouble?
Conspiracy is strong/people increased with Absolam kjv@2Samuel:15:12
David's exile (protected by Ark to Brook Kidron), all his household (-10), 600 men kjv@2Samuel:15:14-18. Ark returned to Jerusalem
David implants loyalist Hushai to counter oracle Ahithophel's influence over Absolam kjv@2Samuel:15:31-37
Absolam receives Hushai's counsel over Ahithophel's thinking that the LORD was setting up an ambush kjv@2Samuel:17:14
David's revigoized wariors (1000's) are sent in three different waves upon Absolam's camp of 20,000+ confident of their victory kjv@2Samuel:18:5
