(page last updated: July 21 2019)

Today's Text:

jps@Psalms:5:1 @ Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

jps@Psalms:5:2 @ Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto Thee do I pray.

jps@Psalms:5:3 @ O LORD, in the morning shalt Thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto Thee, and will look forward.

jps@Psalms:5:4 @ For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with Thee.

jps@Psalms:5:5 @ The boasters shall not stand in Thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

jps@Psalms:5:6 @ Thou destroyest them that speak falsehood; the LORD abhorreth the man of blood and of deceit.

jps@Psalms:5:7 @ But as for me, in the abundance of Thy lovingkindness will I come into Thy house; I will bow down toward Thy holy temple in the fear of Thee.

jps@Psalms:5:8 @ O LORD, lead me in Thy righteousness because of them that lie in wait for me; make Thy way straight before my face.

jps@Psalms:5:9 @ For there is no sincerity in their mouth; their inward part is a yawning gulf, their throat is an open sepulchre; they make smooth their tongue.

jps@Psalms:5:10 @ Hold them guilty, O God, let them fall by their own counsels; cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against Thee.

jps@Psalms:5:11 @ So shall all those that take refuge in Thee rejoice, they shall ever shout for joy, and Thou shalt shelter them; let them also that love Thy name exult in Thee.

jps@Psalms:5:12 @ For Thou dost bless the righteous; O LORD, Thou dost encompass him with favour as with a shield.

Today's Commentary Outline:

  1. The Best Intentions of a Saint:
    • 5 things a saint should intend to do:

      • Unto thee will I pray.

      • My voice shalt thou hear in the morning.

      • I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

      • I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy.

      • In thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

    • Concerning the saint's best intentions - 2 best reasons why.

      • For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness.

      • For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous.

    • To what end should the saint's intentions be directed?

      • Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness

      • Make thy way straight before my face.

    • Does the saint ever truly fulfill that which he/she best intended?

  2. 5 Things Every Saint Should Intend to do: (How largely they go unfulfilled)
    • Unto thee will I pray. (notice 1st before all else) (from the heart)

kjv@Mark:7:6 @ He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

    • My voice shalt thou hear in the morning.

kjv@Psalms:119:147 @ I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

kjv@Psalms:130:6 @ My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

    • I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

    Quoted resource: strongs 'H6822'

H6822 @ צפה tsâphâh tsaw-faw' A primitive root; properly to lean {forward} that {is} to peer into the distance; by implication to {observe} await: - {behold} {espy} look up ({well}) wait {for} (keep the) watch (-man).

    • I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy.

kjv@Psalms:52:8 @ But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

    • In thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

kjv@John:2:19 @ Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

kjv@John:2:20 @ Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

kjv@John:2:21 @ But he spake of the temple of his body.

    kjv@1Peter:1:18 @ Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

kjv@1Peter:1:19 @ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

kjv@1Peter:1:20 @ Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

kjv@1Peter:1:21 @ Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

  3. Concerning the Saint's Best Intentions - 2 best reasons why. (How often we lose sight)
    • For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness.

      • Neither shall evil dwell with thee.

      • The foolish shall not stand in thy sight.

      • Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

      • For there is no faithfulness in their mouth.

      • Their inward part is very wickedness.

      • Their throat is an open sepulchre.

      • They flatter with their tongue.

      • They have rebelled against thee.

    • For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous.

      • Let them fall by their own counsels.

      • Destroy thou them, O God; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions.

      • Let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice.

      • Let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them.

      • Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

  4. To What End Should the Saint's Intentions be Directed? (What other things our intentions become)
    • Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness.

    Quoted resource: strongs 'H5148'

    H5148 @ נחה nâchâh naw-khaw' A primitive root; to guide; by implication to transport (into {exile} or as colonists): - {bestow} {bring} {govern} {guide} lead ({forth}) {put} straiten.

kjv@Psalms:143:8 @ Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

kjv@Psalms:143:9 @ Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.

kjv@Psalms:143:10 @ Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

    • Make thy way straight before my face.

    Quoted resource: strongs 'H3474'

H3474 @ ישׁר yâshar yaw-shar' A primitive root; to be straight or even; figuratively to be (causatively to make) {right} {pleasant} prosperous: - {direct} {fit} seem good ({meet}) + please ({well}) be ({esteem} go) right ({on}) bring ({look} {make} take the) straight ({way}) be upright (-ly).

kjv@Hebrews:12:8 @ But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

kjv@Hebrews:12:9 @ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

kjv@Hebrews:12:10 @ For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

kjv@Hebrews:12:11 @ Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

    kjv@Hebrews:12:12 @ Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

kjv@Hebrews:12:13 @ And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

  5. Does the Saint Ever Truly Fulfill that which He/She Best Intended? (How now to better fulfill our best intentions)
    • Give ear to my words.

      • Most times actions speak loader than words. (Faithfulness/Sincerity/Humility/Correctablility/Perseverance)

      • Am I giving HIM reason to give an ear? or just more of the same? (mercy not deserved/the attempt is appreciated)

      • Am I going in from the start to first hear HIS words?

      • Am I speaking from the heart or just my lips?

    • Consider my meditation.

      • My thought life as it lately has been... should it really be considered?

      • Have my fears and doubts and business, selfish blindness and temper and lusts clouded my thought processes?

    • Hearken unto the voice of my cry,

      • My King? (To what exent?)

      • My God? (Supreme/Sovereign)

    • Intend to do what God intends for you to do... Intend to be what all God intends for you to do!

      • Stay close by His side and He will lead you by His stength and lovingkindness all the way there!
