* For the preaching of the cross is (5748 ) to them that perish (5730 ) foolishness ; but unto us which are saved (5746 ) it is (5748 ) the power of God . * For it is written (5769 ), I will destroy (5692 ) the wisdom of the wise , and will bring to nothing (5692 ) the understanding of the prudent . * Where is the wise ? where is the scribe ? where is the disputer of this world ? hath not God made foolish (5656 ) the wisdom of this world ? * For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew (5627 ) not God , it pleased (5656 ) God by the foolishness of preaching to save (5658 ) them that believe (5723 ). * For the Jews require (5719 ) a sign , and the Greeks seek (5719 ) after wisdom : * But we preach (5719 ) Christ crucified (5772 ), unto the Jews a stumblingblock , and unto the Greeks foolishness ; * But unto them which are called , both Jews and Greeks , Christ the power of God , and the wisdom of God . * Because the foolishness of God is (5748 ) wiser than men ; and the weakness of God is (5748 ) stronger than men . * For ye see (5719 ) your calling , brethren , how that not many wise men after the flesh , not many mighty , not many noble , are called : * But God hath chosen (5668 ) the foolish things of the world to confound (5725 ) the wise ; and God hath chosen (5668 ) the weak things of the world to confound (5725 ) the things which are mighty ; * And base things of the world , and things which are despised (5772 ), hath God chosen (5668 ), yea , and things which are (5752 ) not , to bring to nought (5661 ) things that are (5752 ): * That no flesh should glory (5667 ) in his presence .
