* For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew (5627 ) not God , it pleased (5656 ) God by the foolishness of preaching to save (5658 ) them that believe (5723 ). * For the Jews require (5719 ) a sign , and the Greeks seek (5719 ) after wisdom : * But we preach (5719 ) Christ crucified (5772 ), unto the Jews a stumblingblock , and unto the Greeks foolishness ; * But unto them which are called , both Jews and Greeks , Christ the power of God , and the wisdom of God . * Because the foolishness of God is (5748 ) wiser than men ; and the weakness of God is (5748 ) stronger than men . * For ye see (5719 ) your calling , brethren , how that not many wise men after the flesh , not many mighty , not many noble , are called : * But God hath chosen (5668 ) the foolish things of the world to confound (5725 ) the wise ; and God hath chosen (5668 ) the weak things of the world to confound (5725 ) the things which are mighty ; * And base things of the world , and things which are despised (5772 ), hath God chosen (5668 ), yea , and things which are (5752 ) not , to bring to nought (5661 ) things that are (5752 ):
