* Peter , an apostle of Jesus Christ , to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus , Galatia , Cappadocia , Asia , and Bithynia , * Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father , through sanctification of the Spirit , unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ : Grace unto you , and peace , be multiplied (5684 ). * Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ , which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again (5660 ) unto a lively (5723 ) hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead , * To an inheritance incorruptible , and undefiled , and that fadeth not away , reserved (5772 ) in heaven for you , * Who are kept (5746 ) by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed (5683 ) in the last time . * Wherein ye greatly rejoice (5736 ), though now for a season , if need (5752 ) be (5748 ), ye are in heaviness (5685 ) through manifold temptations : * That the trial of your faith , being much more precious than of gold that perisheth (5734 ), though it be tried (5746 ) with fire , might be found (5686 ) unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ : * Whom having not seen (5761 ) (5625 ) (5631 ), ye love (5719 ); in whom , though now ye see (5723 ) him not , yet believing (5723 ), ye rejoice (5736 ) with joy unspeakable and full of glory (5772 ): * Receiving (5734 ) the end of your faith , even the salvation of your souls . * Of which salvation the prophets have enquired (5656 ) and searched diligently (5656 ), who prophesied (5660 ) of the grace that should come unto you : * Searching (5723 ) what , or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify (5707 ), when it testified beforehand (5740 ) the sufferings of Christ , and the glory that should follow . * Unto whom it was revealed (5681 ), that not unto themselves , but unto us they did minister (5707 ) the things , which are now reported (5648 ) unto you by them that have preached the gospel (5671 ) unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down (5651 ) from heaven ; which things the angels desire (5719 ) to look (5658 ) into . * Wherefore gird up (5671 ) the loins of your mind , be sober (5723 ), and hope (5657 ) to the end for the grace that is to be brought (5746 ) unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ ; * As obedient children , not fashioning yourselves according to (5730 ) the former lusts in your ignorance : * But as he which hath called (5660 ) you is holy , so be (5676 ) ye holy in all manner of conversation ; * Because it is written (5769 ), Be ye (5634 ) holy ; for I am (5748 ) holy . * And if ye call on (5731 ) the Father , who without respect of persons judgeth (5723 ) according to every mans work , pass (5649 ) the time of your sojourning here in fear : * Forasmuch as ye know (5761 ) that ye were not redeemed (5681 ) with corruptible things , as silver and gold , from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers ; * But with the precious blood of Christ , as of a lamb without blemish and without spot : * Who verily was foreordained (5772 ) before the foundation of the world , but was manifest (5685 ) in these last times for you , * Who by him do believe (5723 ) in God , that raised him up (5660 ) from the dead , and gave (5631 ) him glory ; that your faith and hope might be (5750 ) in God . * Seeing ye have purified (5761 ) your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren , see that ye love (5657 ) one another with a pure heart fervently : * Being born again (5746 ), not of corruptible seed , but of incorruptible , by the word of God , which liveth (5723 ) and abideth (5723 ) for ever . * For all flesh is as grass , and all the glory of man as the flower of grass . The grass withereth (5681 ), and the flower thereof falleth away (5627 ): * But the word of the Lord endureth (5719 ) for ever . And this is (5748 ) the word which by the gospel is preached (5685 ) unto you .
