* Now I Paul myself beseech (5719 ) you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ , who in presence am base among you , but being absent (5752 ) am bold (5719 ) toward you : * But I beseech (5736 ) you , that I may not be bold (5658 ) when I am present (5752 ) with that confidence , wherewith I think (5736 ) to be bold (5658 ) against some , which think (5740 ) of us as if we walked (5723 ) according to the flesh . * For though we walk (5723 ) in the flesh , we do not war (5731 ) after the flesh : * (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal , but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds ;) * Casting down (5723 ) imaginations , and every high thing that exalteth itself (5734 ) against the knowledge of God , and bringing into captivity (5723 ) every thought to the obedience of Christ ; * And having (5723 ) in a readiness to revenge (5658 ) all disobedience , when your obedience is fulfilled (5686 ). * Do ye look on (5719 ) things after the outward appearance ? If any man trust (5754 ) to himself that he is (5750 ) Christs , let him of himself think (5737 ) this again , that , as he is Christs , even so are we Christs . * For though I should boast (5667 ) somewhat more of our authority , which the Lord hath given (5656 ) us for edification , and not for your destruction , I should not be ashamed (5701 ): * That I may not seem (5661 ) as if I would terrify (5721 ) you by letters . * For his letters , say they (5748 ), are weighty and powerful ; but his bodily presence is weak , and his speech contemptible (5772 ). * Let such an one think (5737 ) this , that , such as we are (5748 ) in word by letters when we are absent (5752 ), such will we be also in deed when we are present (5752 ). * For we dare (5719 ) not make ourselves of the number (5658 ), or compare ourselves with (5658 ) some that commend (5723 ) themselves : but they measuring (5723 ) themselves by themselves , and comparing themselves among (5723 ) themselves , are not wise (5719 ). * But we will not boast (5695 ) of things without our measure , but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed (5656 ) to us , a measure to reach (5635 ) even unto you . * For we stretch not ourselves beyond (5719 ) our measure , as though we reached (5740 ) not unto you : for we are come (5656 ) as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ : * Not boasting (5740 ) of things without our measure , that is , of other mens labours ; but having (5723 ) hope , when your faith is increased (5746 ), that we shall be enlarged (5683 ) by you according to our rule abundantly , * To preach the gospel (5670 ) in the regions beyond you , and not to boast (5664 ) in another mans line of things made ready to our hand . * But he that glorieth (5740 ), let him glory (5737 ) in the Lord . * For not he that commendeth (5723 ) himself is (5748 ) approved , but whom the Lord commendeth (5719 ).
