* For though I made you sorry (5656 ) with a letter , I do not repent (5736 ), though I did repent (5711 ): for I perceive (5719 ) that the same epistle hath made you sorry (5656 ), though it were but for a season . * Now I rejoice (5719 ), not that ye were made sorry (5681 ), but that ye sorrowed (5681 ) to repentance : for ye were made sorry (5681 ) after a godly manner , that ye might receive damage (5686 ) by us in nothing . * For godly sorrow worketh (5736 ) repentance to salvation not to be repented of : but the sorrow of the world worketh (5736 ) death . * For behold (5628 ) this selfsame thing , that ye sorrowed (5683 ) after a godly sort , what carefulness it wrought (5662 ) in you , yea , what clearing of yourselves , yea , what indignation , yea , what fear , yea , what vehement desire , yea , what zeal , yea , what revenge ! In all things ye have approved (5656 ) yourselves to be (5750 ) clear in this matter . * Wherefore , though I wrote (5656 ) unto you , I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong (5660 ), nor for his cause that suffered wrong (5685 ), but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear (5683 ) unto you .
