* Simon Peter , a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ , to them that have obtained (5631 ) like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ : * Grace and peace be multiplied (5684 ) unto you through the knowledge of God , and of Jesus our Lord , * According as his divine power hath given (5772 ) unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness , through the knowledge of him that hath called (5660 ) us to glory and virtue : * Whereby are given (5769 ) unto us exceeding great and precious promises : that by these ye might be (5638 ) partakers of the divine nature , having escaped (5631 ) the corruption that is in the world through lust . * And beside this , giving (5660 ) all diligence , add (5657 ) to your faith virtue ; and to virtue knowledge ; * And to knowledge temperance ; and to temperance patience ; and to patience godliness ; * And to godliness brotherly kindness ; and to brotherly kindness charity . * For if these things be (5723 ) in you , and abound (5723 ), they make (5719 ) you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ . * But he that lacketh (5748 ) these things is (5748 ) blind , and cannot see afar off (5723 ), and hath forgotten (5631 ) that he was purged from his old sins . * Wherefore the rather , brethren , give diligence (5657 ) to make (5733 ) your calling and election sure : for if ye do (5723 ) these things , ye shall # never fall (5661 ): * For so an entrance shall be ministered (5701 ) unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . * Wherefore I will not be negligent (5692 ) to put you always in remembrance (5721 ) of these things , though ye know (5761 ) them , and be established (5772 ) in the present (5752 ) truth . * Yea , I think it (5736 ) meet , as long as I am (5748 ) in this tabernacle , to stir you up (5721 ) by putting you in remembrance ; * Knowing (5761 ) that shortly I must (5748 ) put off this my tabernacle , even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed (5656 ) me . * Moreover I will endeavour (5692 ) that ye may be able (5721 ) after my decease to have (5733 ) these things always in remembrance . * For we have not followed (5660 ) cunningly devised (5772 ) fables , when we made known (5656 ) unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ , but were (5679 ) eyewitnesses of his majesty . * For he received (5631 ) from God the Father honour and glory , when there came (5685 ) such a voice to him from the excellent glory , This is (5748 ) my beloved Son , in whom I am well pleased (5656 ). * And this voice which came (5685 ) from heaven we heard (5656 ), when we were (5752 ) with him in the holy mount . * We have (5719 ) also a more sure word of prophecy ; whereunto ye do (5719 ) well that ye take heed (5723 ), as unto a light that shineth (5730 ) in a dark place , until the day dawn (5661 ), and the day star arise (5661 ) in your hearts : * Knowing (5723 ) this first , that no prophecy of the scripture is (5736 ) of any private interpretation . * For the prophecy came (5681 ) not in old time by the will of man : but holy men of God spake (5656 ) as they were moved (5746 ) by the Holy Ghost .
