* This second epistle , beloved , I now write (5719 ) unto you ; in both which I stir up (5719 ) your pure minds by way of remembrance : * That ye may be mindful (5683 ) of the words which were spoken before (5772 ) by the holy prophets , and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour : * Knowing (5723 ) this first , that there shall come (5695 ) in the last days scoffers , walking (5740 ) after their own lusts , * And saying (5723 ), Where is (5748 ) the promise of his coming ? for since the fathers fell asleep (5681 ), all things continue (5719 ) as they were from the beginning of the creation . * For this they willingly (5723 ) are ignorant of (5719 ), that by the word of God the heavens were (5713 ) of old , and the earth standing (5761 ) out of the water and in the water : * Whereby the world that then was , being overflowed (5685 ) with water , perished (5639 ): * But the heavens and the earth , which are now , by the same word are (5748 ) kept in store (5772 ), reserved (5746 ) unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men . * But , beloved , be not ignorant (5720 ) of this one thing , that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years , and a thousand years as one day . * The Lord is not slack (5719 ) concerning his promise , as some men count (5736 ) slackness ; but is longsuffering (5719 ) to us-ward , not willing (5740 ) that any should perish (5641 ), but that all should come (5658 ) to repentance . * But the day of the Lord will come (5692 ) as a thief in the night ; in the which the heavens shall pass away (5695 ) with a great noise , and the elements shall melt (5701 ) with fervent heat (5746 ), the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up (5691 ). * Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved (5746 ), what manner of persons ought (5748 ) ye to be (5721 ) in all holy conversation and godliness , * Looking for (5723 ) and hasting (5723 ) unto the coming of the day of God , wherein the heavens being on fire (5746 ) shall be dissolved (5701 ), and the elements shall melt (5743 ) with fervent heat (5746 )? * Nevertheless we , according to his promise , look for (5719 ) new heavens and a new earth , wherein dwelleth (5719 ) righteousness . * Wherefore , beloved , seeing that ye look for (5723 ) such things , be diligent (5657 ) that ye may be found (5683 ) of him in peace , without spot , and blameless . * And account (5737 ) that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation ; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given (5685 ) unto him hath written (5656 ) unto you ; * As also in all his epistles , speaking (5723 ) in them of these things ; in which are (5748 ) some things hard to be understood , which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (5719 ), as they do also the other scriptures , unto their own destruction . * Ye therefore , beloved , seeing ye know these things before (5723 ), beware (5732 ) lest ye also , being led away (5685 ) with the error of the wicked , fall from (5632 ) your own stedfastness . * But grow (5720 ) in grace , and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . To him be glory both now and for ever . Amen .
