* And saying (5723 ), Where is (5748 ) the promise of his coming ? for since the fathers fell asleep (5681 ), all things continue (5719 ) as they were from the beginning of the creation . * For this they willingly (5723 ) are ignorant of (5719 ), that by the word of God the heavens were (5713 ) of old , and the earth standing (5761 ) out of the water and in the water : * Whereby the world that then was , being overflowed (5685 ) with water , perished (5639 ): * But the heavens and the earth , which are now , by the same word are (5748 ) kept in store (5772 ), reserved (5746 ) unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men . * But , beloved , be not ignorant (5720 ) of this one thing , that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years , and a thousand years as one day . * The Lord is not slack (5719 ) concerning his promise , as some men count (5736 ) slackness ; but is longsuffering (5719 ) to us-ward , not willing (5740 ) that any should perish (5641 ), but that all should come (5658 ) to repentance . * But the day of the Lord will come (5692 ) as a thief in the night ; in the which the heavens shall pass away (5695 ) with a great noise , and the elements shall melt (5701 ) with fervent heat (5746 ), the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up (5691 ).
