* Now there were (5713 ) in the church that was (5752 ) at Antioch certain prophets and teachers ; as Barnabas , and Simeon that was called (5746 ) Niger , and Lucius of Cyrene , and Manaen , which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch , and Saul . * As they ministered (5723 ) to the Lord , and fasted (5723 ), the Holy Ghost said (5627 ), Separate (5657 ) me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called (5766 ) them . * And when they had fasted (5660 ) and prayed (5666 ), and laid their hands on (5631 ) them , they sent them away (5656 ). * So they , being sent forth (5685 ) by the Holy Ghost , departed (5627 ) unto Seleucia ; and from thence they sailed (5656 ) to Cyprus . * And when they were (5637 ) at Salamis , they preached (5707 ) the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews : and they had (5707 ) also John to their minister . * And when they had gone through (5631 ) the isle unto Paphos , they found (5627 ) a certain sorcerer , a false prophet , a Jew , whose name was Barjesus : * Which was (5713 ) with the deputy of the country , Sergius Paulus , a prudent man ; who called (5666 ) for Barnabas and Saul , and desired (5656 ) to hear (5658 ) the word of God . * But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation (5743 )) withstood (5710 ) them , seeking (5723 ) to turn away (5658 ) the deputy from the faith . * Then Saul , (who also is called Paul ,) filled with (5685 ) the Holy Ghost , set his eyes (5660 ) on him , * And said (5627 ), O full of all subtilty and all mischief , thou child of the devil , thou enemy of all righteousness , wilt thou not cease (5695 ) to pervert (5723 ) the right ways of the Lord ? * And now , behold (5628 ), the hand of the Lord is upon thee , and thou shalt be (5704 ) blind , not seeing (5723 ) the sun for a season . And immediately there fell (5627 ) on him a mist and a darkness ; and he went about (5723 ) seeking (5707 ) some to lead him by the hand . * Then the deputy , when he saw (5631 ) what was done (5756 ), believed (5656 ), being astonished (5746 ) at the doctrine of the Lord . * Now when Paul and his company loosed (5685 ) from Paphos , they came (5627 ) to Perga in Pamphylia : and John departing (5660 ) from them returned (5656 ) to Jerusalem . * But when they departed (5631 ) from Perga , they came (5633 ) to Antioch in Pisidia , and went (5631 ) into the synagogue on the sabbath day , and sat down (5656 ). * And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent (5656 ) unto them , saying (5723 ), Ye men and brethren , if ye have (5748 ) any word of exhortation for the people , say on (5720 ). * Then Paul stood up (5631 ), and beckoning (5660 ) with his hand said (5627 ), Men of Israel , and ye that fear (5740 ) God , give audience (5657 ). * The God of this people of Israel chose (5668 ) our fathers , and exalted (5656 ) the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt , and with an high arm brought he (5627 ) them out of it . * And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners (5656 ) in the wilderness . * And when he had destroyed (5631 ) seven nations in the land of Chanaan , he divided their land to them by lot (5656 ). * And after that he gave (5656 ) unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years , until Samuel the prophet . * And afterward they desired (5668 ) a king : and God gave (5656 ) unto them Saul the son of Cis , a man of the tribe of Benjamin , by the space of forty years . * And when he had removed (5660 ) him , he raised up (5656 ) unto them David to be their king ; to whom also he gave testimony (5660 ), and said (5627 ), I have found (5627 ) David the son of Jesse , a man after mine own heart , which shall fulfil (5692 ) all my will . * Of this mans seed hath God according to his promise raised (5656 ) unto Israel a Saviour , Jesus : * When John had first preached (5660 ) before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel . * And as John fulfilled (5707 ) his course , he said (5707 ), Whom think ye (5719 ) that I am (5750 )? I am (5748 ) not he . But , behold (5628 ), there cometh one (5736 ) after me , whose shoes of his feet I am (5748 ) not worthy to loose (5658 ). * Men and brethren , children of the stock of Abraham , and whosoever among you feareth (5740 ) God , to you is the word of this salvation sent (5648 ). * For they that dwell (5723 ) at Jerusalem , and their rulers , because they knew him not (5660 ), nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read (5746 ) every sabbath day , they have fulfilled (5656 ) them in condemning (5660 ) him . * And though they found (5631 ) no cause of death in him , yet desired they (5668 ) Pilate that he should be slain (5683 ). * And when they had fulfilled (5656 ) all that was written (5772 ) of him , they took him down (5631 ) from the tree , and laid (5656 ) him in a sepulchre . * But God raised (5656 ) him from the dead : * And he was seen (5681 ) many days of them which came up with (5631 ) him from Galilee to Jerusalem , who are (5748 ) his witnesses unto the people . * And we declare unto you glad tidings (5731 ), how that the promise which was made (5637 ) unto the fathers , * God hath fulfilled (5758 ) the same unto us their children , in that he hath raised up Jesus again (5660 ); as it is also written (5769 ) in the second psalm , Thou art (5748 ) my Son , this day have I begotten (5758 ) thee . * And as concerning that he raised him up (5656 ) from the dead , now no more to (5723 ) return (5721 ) to corruption , he said (5758 ) on this wise , I will give (5692 ) you the sure mercies of David . * Wherefore he saith (5719 ) also in another psalm , Thou shalt not suffer (5692 ) thine Holy One to see (5629 ) corruption . * For David , after he had served (5660 ) his own generation by the will of God , fell on sleep (5681 ), and was laid (5681 ) unto his fathers , and saw (5627 ) corruption : * But he , whom God raised again (5656 ), saw (5627 ) no corruption . * Be it (5749 ) known unto you therefore , men and brethren , that through this man is preached (5743 ) unto you the forgiveness of sins : * And by him all that believe (5723 ) are justified (5743 ) from all things , from which ye could (5675 ) not be justified (5683 ) by the law of Moses . * Beware (5720 ) therefore , lest that come (5632 ) upon you , which is spoken of (5772 ) in the prophets ; * Behold (5628 ), ye despisers , and wonder (5657 ), and perish (5682 ): for I work (5736 ) a work in your days , a work which ye shall in no wise believe (5661 ), though a man declare it (5741 ) unto you . * And when the Jews were gone (5654 ) out of the synagogue , the Gentiles besought (5707 ) that these words might be preached (5683 ) to them the next sabbath . * Now when the congregation was broken up (5685 ), many of the Jews and religious (5740 ) proselytes followed (5656 ) Paul and Barnabas : who , speaking (5723 ) to them , persuaded (5707 ) them to continue (5721 ) in the grace of God . * And the next (5740 ) sabbath day came almost the whole city together (5681 ) to hear (5658 ) the word of God . * But when the Jews saw (5631 ) the multitudes , they were filled (5681 ) with envy , and spake against (5707 ) those things which were spoken (5746 ) by Paul , contradicting (5723 ) and blaspheming (5723 ). * Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold (5666 ), and said (5627 ), It was (5713 ) necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken (5683 ) to you : but seeing ye put it from you (5736 ), and judge (5719 ) yourselves unworthy of everlasting life , lo (5628 ), we turn (5743 ) to the Gentiles . * For so hath the Lord commanded (5769 ) us , saying , I have set (5758 ) thee to be a light of the Gentiles , that thou shouldest be (5750 ) for salvation unto the ends of the earth . * And when the Gentiles heard this (5723 ), they were glad (5707 ), and glorified (5707 ) the word of the Lord : and as many as were (5713 ) ordained (5772 ) to eternal life believed (5656 ). * And the word of the Lord was published (5712 ) throughout all the region . * But the Jews stirred up (5656 ) the devout (5740 ) and honourable women , and the chief men of the city , and raised (5656 ) persecution against Paul and Barnabas , and expelled (5627 ) them out of their coasts . * But they shook off (5671 ) the dust of their feet against them , and came (5627 ) unto Iconium . * And the disciples were filled with (5712 ) joy , and with the Holy Ghost .
