* And it came to pass (5633 ) in Iconium , that they went (5629 ) both together into the synagogue of the Jews , and so spake (5658 ), that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed (5658 ). * But the unbelieving (5723 ) Jews stirred up (5656 ) the Gentiles , and made their minds evil affected (5656 ) against the brethren . * Long time therefore abode they (5656 ) speaking boldly (5740 ) in the Lord , which gave testimony (5723 ) unto the word of his grace , and granted (5723 ) signs and wonders to be done (5738 ) by their hands . * But the multitude of the city was divided (5681 ): and part held (5713 ) with the Jews , and part with the apostles . * And when there was an assault made (5633 ) both of the Gentiles , and also of the Jews with their rulers , to use them despitefully (5658 ), and to stone (5658 ) them , * They were ware (5631 ) of it , and fled (5627 ) unto Lystra and Derbe , cities of Lycaonia , and unto the region that lieth round about : * And there they preached the gospel (5713 ) (5734 ). * And there sat (5711 ) a certain man at Lystra , impotent in his feet , being (5723 ) a cripple from his mothers womb , who never had walked (5715 ): * The same heard (5707 ) Paul speak (5723 ): who stedfastly beholding (5660 ) him , and perceiving (5631 ) that he had (5719 ) faith to be healed (5683 ), * Said (5627 ) with a loud voice , Stand (5628 ) upright on thy feet . And he leaped (5711 ) and walked (5707 ). * And when the people saw (5631 ) what Paul had done (5656 ), they lifted up (5656 ) their voices , saying (5723 ) in the speech of Lycaonia , The gods are come down (5627 ) to us in the likeness (5685 ) of men . * And they called (5707 ) Barnabas , Jupiter ; and Paul , Mercurius , because he was (5713 ) the chief (5740 ) speaker . * Then the priest of Jupiter , which was (5752 ) before their city , brought (5660 ) oxen and garlands unto the gates , and would (5707 ) have done sacrifice (5721 ) with the people . * Which when the apostles , Barnabas and Paul , heard (5660 ) of , they rent (5660 ) their clothes , and ran (5656 ) in among the people , crying out (5723 ), * And saying (5723 ), Sirs , why do ye (5719 ) these things ? We also are (5748 ) men of like passions with you , and preach (5734 ) unto you that ye should turn (5721 ) from these vanities unto the living (5723 ) God , which made (5656 ) heaven , and earth , and the sea , and all things that are therein : * Who in times past (5768 ) suffered (5656 ) all nations to walk (5738 ) in their own ways . * Nevertheless he left (5656 ) not himself without witness , in that he did good (5723 ), and gave (5723 ) us rain from heaven , and fruitful seasons , filling (5723 ) our hearts with food and gladness . * And with these sayings (5723 ) scarce restrained they (5656 ) the people , that they had not done sacrifice (5721 ) unto them . * And there came thither (5627 ) certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium , who persuaded (5660 ) the people , and , having stoned (5660 ) Paul , drew (5707 ) him out of the city , supposing (5660 ) he had been dead (5755 ). * Howbeit , as the disciples stood round about (5660 ) him , he rose up (5631 ), and came (5627 ) into the city : and the next day he departed (5627 ) with Barnabas to Derbe . * And when they had preached the gospel (5671 ) to that city , and had taught (5660 ) many , they returned again (5656 ) to Lystra , and to Iconium , and Antioch , * Confirming (5723 ) the souls of the disciples , and exhorting them (5723 ) to continue (5721 ) in the faith , and that we must (5748 ) through much tribulation enter (5629 ) into the kingdom of God . * And when they had ordained (5660 ) them elders in every church , and had prayed (5666 ) with fasting , they commended (5639 ) them to the Lord , on whom they believed (5715 ). * And after they had passed throughout (5631 ) Pisidia , they came (5627 ) to Pamphylia . * And when they had preached (5660 ) the word in Perga , they went down (5627 ) into Attalia : * And thence sailed (5656 ) to Antioch , from whence they had been (5713 ) recommended (5772 ) to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled (5656 ). * And when they were come (5637 ), and had gathered the church together (5631 ), they rehearsed (5656 ) all that God had done (5656 ) with them , and how he had opened (5656 ) the door of faith unto the Gentiles . * And there they abode (5707 ) long time with the disciples .
