Acts:16

*
Then came he (
5656 )
to Derbe and Lystra :
and ,
behold (
5628 ),
a certain disciple was (
5713 )
there ,
named Timotheus ,
the son of a certain woman ,
which was a Jewess ,
and believed ;
but his father was a Greek :
*
Which was well reported (
5712 )
of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium .
*
Him would (
5656 )
Paul have to go forth (
5629 )
with him ;
and took (
5631 )
and circumcised (
5627 )
him because of the Jews which were (
5752 )
in those quarters :
for they knew (
5715 )
all that his father was (
5707 )
a Greek .
*
And as they went through (
5711 )
the cities ,
they delivered (
5707 )
them the decrees for to keep (
5721 ),
that were ordained (
5772 )
of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem .
*
And so were the churches established (
5712 )
in the faith ,
and increased (
5707 )
in number daily .
*
Now when they had gone throughout (
5631 )
Phrygia and the region of Galatia ,
and were forbidden (
5685 )
of the Holy Ghost to preach (
5658 )
the word in Asia ,
*
After they were come (
5631 )
to Mysia ,
they assayed (
5707 )
to go (
5738 )
into Bithynia :
but the Spirit suffered (
5656 )
them not .
*
And they passing by (
5631 )
Mysia came down (
5627 )
to Troas .
*
And a vision appeared (
5681 )
to Paul in the night ;
There stood (
5713 ) (
5761 )
a man of Macedonia ,
and prayed (
5723 )
him ,
saying (
5723 ),
Come over (
5631 )
into Macedonia ,
and help (
5657 )
us .
*
And after he had seen (
5627 )
the vision ,
immediately we endeavoured (
5656 )
to go (
5629 )
into Macedonia ,
assuredly gathering (
5723 )
that the Lord had called (
5766 )
us for to preach the gospel (
5670 )
unto them .
*
Therefore loosing (
5685 )
from Troas ,
we came with a straight course (
5656 )
to Samothracia ,
and the next (
5752 )
day to Neapolis ;
*
And from thence to Philippi ,
which is (
5748 )
the chief city of that part of Macedonia ,
and a colony :
and we were (
5713 )
in that city abiding (
5723 )
certain days .
*
And on the sabbath we went (
5627 )
out of the city by a river side ,
where prayer was wont (
5712 )
to be made (
5750 );
and we sat down (
5660 ),
and spake (
5707 )
unto the women which resorted (
5631 )
thither .
*
And a certain woman named Lydia ,
a seller of purple ,
of the city of Thyatira ,
which worshipped (
5740 )
God ,
heard (
5707 )
us :
whose heart the Lord opened (
5656 ),
that she attended (
5721 )
unto the things which were spoken (
5746 )
of Paul .
*
And when she was baptized (
5681 ),
and her household ,
she besought (
5656 )
us ,
saying (
5723 ),
If ye have judged (
5758 )
me to be (
5750 )
faithful to the Lord ,
come (
5631 )
into my house ,
and abide (
5657 )
there .
And she constrained (
5662 )
us .
*
And it came to pass (
5633 ),
as we went (
5740 )
to prayer ,
a certain damsel possessed (
5723 )
with a spirit of divination met (
5658 )
us ,
which brought (
5707 )
her masters much gain by soothsaying (
5740 ):
*
The same followed (
5660 )
Paul and us ,
and cried (
5707 ),
saying (
5723 ),
These men are (
5748 )
the servants of the most high God ,
which shew (
5719 )
unto us the way of salvation .
*
And this did she (
5707 )
many days .
But Paul ,
being grieved (
5666 ),
turned (
5660 )
and said (
5627 )
to the spirit ,
I command (
5719 )
thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come (
5629 )
out of her .
And he came out (
5627 )
the same hour .
*
And when her masters saw (
5631 )
that the hope of their gains was gone (
5627 ),
they caught (
5637 )
Paul and Silas ,
and drew (
5656 )
them into the marketplace unto the rulers ,
*
And brought (
5631 )
them to the magistrates ,
saying (
5627 ),
These men ,
being (
5723 )
Jews ,
do exceedingly trouble (
5719 )
our city ,
*
And teach (
5719 )
customs ,
which are not lawful (
5748 )
for us to receive (
5738 ),
neither to observe (
5721 ),
being (
5752 )
Romans .
*
And the multitude rose up together (
5627 )
against them :
and the magistrates rent off (
5660 )
their clothes ,
and commanded (
5707 )
to beat (
5721 )
them .
*
And when they had laid (
5631 )
many stripes upon them ,
they cast (
5627 )
them into prison ,
charging (
5660 )
the jailor to keep (
5721 )
them safely :
*
Who ,
having received (
5761 )
such a charge ,
thrust (
5627 )
them into the inner prison ,
and made their feet fast (
5662 )
in the stocks .
*
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed (
5740 ),
and sang praises (
5707 )
unto God :
and the prisoners heard (
5711 )
them .
*
And suddenly there was (
5633 )
a great earthquake ,
so that the foundations of the prison were shaken (
5683 ):
and immediately all the doors were opened (
5681 ),
and every ones bands were loosed (
5681 ).
*
And the keeper of the prison awaking (
5637 )
out of his sleep ,
and seeing (
5631 )
the prison doors open (
5772 ),
he drew out (
5671 )
his sword ,
and would (
5707 )
have killed (
5721 )
himself ,
supposing (
5723 )
that the prisoners had been fled (
5755 ).
*
But Paul cried (
5656 )
with a loud voice ,
saying (
5723 ),
Do (
5661 )
thyself no harm :
for we are (
5748 )
all here .
*
Then he called (
5660 )
for a light ,
and sprang in (
5656 ),
and came (
5637 )
trembling ,
and fell down before (
5627 )
Paul and Silas ,
*
And brought (
5631 )
them out ,
and said (
5713 ),
Sirs ,
what must (
5748 )
I do (
5721 )
to be saved (
5686 )?
*
And they said (
5627 ),
Believe (
5657 )
on the Lord Jesus Christ ,
and thou shalt be saved (
5701 ),
and thy house .
*
And they spake (
5656 )
unto him the word of the Lord ,
and to all that were in his house .
*
And he took (
5631 )
them the same hour of the night ,
and washed (
5656 )
their stripes ;
and was baptized (
5681 ),
he and all his ,
straightway .
*
And when he had brought (
5631 )
them into his house ,
he set meat before them (
5656 ),
and rejoiced (
5662 ),
believing (
5761 )
in God with all his house .
*
And when it was (
5637 )
day ,
the magistrates sent (
5656 )
the serjeants ,
saying (
5723 ),
Let those men go (
5657 ).
*
And the keeper of the prison told (
5656 )
this saying to Paul ,
The magistrates have sent (
5758 )
to let you go (
5686 ):
now therefore depart (
5631 ),
and go (
5737 )
in peace .
*
But Paul said (
5713 )
unto them ,
They have beaten (
5660 )
us openly uncondemned ,
being (
5723 )
Romans ,
and have cast (
5627 )
us into prison ;
and now do they thrust us out (
5719 )
privily ?
nay verily ;
but let them come (
5631 )
themselves and fetch us out (
5628 ).
*
And the serjeants told (
5656 )
these words unto the magistrates :
and they feared (
5675 ),
when they heard (
5660 )
that they were (
5748 )
Romans .
*
And they came (
5631 )
and besought (
5656 )
them ,
and brought them out (
5631 ),
and desired (
5707 )
them to depart out (
5629 )
of the city .
*
And they went (
5631 )
out of the prison ,
and entered (
5627 )
into the house of Lydia :
and when they had seen (
5631 )
the brethren ,
they comforted (
5656 )
them ,
and departed (
5627 ).
