* And Saul was (5713 ) consenting (5723 ) unto his death . And at that time there was (5633 ) a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem ; and they were all scattered abroad (5681 ) throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria , except the apostles . * And devout men carried (5656 ) Stephen to his burial , and made (5668 ) great lamentation over him . * As for Saul , he made havock (5711 ) of the church , entering into (5740 ) every house , and haling (5723 ) men and women committed (5707 ) them to prison . * Therefore they that were scattered abroad (5651 ) went every where (5627 ) preaching (5734 ) the word . * Then Philip went down (5631 ) to the city of Samaria , and preached (5707 ) Christ unto them . * And the people with one accord gave heed (5707 ) unto those things which Philip spake (5746 ), hearing (5721 ) and seeing (5721 ) the miracles which he did (5707 ). * For unclean spirits , crying (5723 ) with loud voice , came out (5711 ) of many that were possessed (5723 ) with them : and many taken with palsies (5772 ), and that were lame , were healed (5681 ). * And there was (5633 ) great joy in that city . * But there was a certain man , called Simon , which beforetime (5707 ) in the same city used sorcery (5723 ), and bewitched (5723 ) the people of Samaria , giving out (5723 ) that himself was (5750 ) some great one : * To whom they all gave heed (5707 ), from the least to the greatest , saying (5723 ), This man is (5748 ) the great power of God . * And to him they had regard (5707 ), because that of long time he had bewitched (5760 ) them with sorceries . * But when they believed (5656 ) Philip preaching (5734 ) the things concerning the kingdom of God , and the name of Jesus Christ , they were baptized (5712 ), both men and women . * Then Simon himself believed (5656 ) also : and when he was baptized (5685 ), he continued (5713 ) (5723 ) with Philip , and wondered (5710 ), beholding (5723 ) the miracles and signs which were done (5740 ) (5625 ) (5740 ). * Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard (5660 ) that Samaria had received (5766 ) the word of God , they sent (5656 ) unto them Peter and John : * Who , when they were come down (5631 ), prayed (5662 ) for them , that they might receive (5632 ) the Holy Ghost : * (For as yet he was (5713 ) fallen (5761 ) upon none of them : only they were (5707 ) baptized (5772 ) in the name of the Lord Jesus .) * Then laid they (5707 ) their hands on them , and they received (5707 ) the Holy Ghost . * And when Simon saw (5666 ) that through laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given (5743 ), he offered (5656 ) them money , * Saying (5723 ), Give (5628 ) me also this power , that on whomsoever I lay (5632 ) hands , he may receive (5725 ) the Holy Ghost . * But Peter said (5627 ) unto him , Thy money perish (5751 ) with thee , because thou hast thought (5656 ) that the gift of God may be purchased (5738 ) with money . * Thou hast (5748 ) neither part nor lot in this matter : for thy heart is (5748 ) not right in the sight of God . * Repent (5657 ) therefore of this thy wickedness , and pray (5676 ) God , if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven (5701 ) thee . * For I perceive (5719 ) that thou art (5752 ) in the gall of bitterness , and in the bond of iniquity . * Then answered (5679 ) Simon , and said (5627 ), Pray (5676 ) ye to the Lord for me , that none of these things which ye have spoken (5758 ) come (5632 ) upon me . * And they , when they had testified (5666 ) and preached (5660 ) the word of the Lord , returned (5656 ) to Jerusalem , and preached the gospel (5668 ) in many villages of the Samaritans . * And the angel of the Lord spake (5656 ) unto Philip , saying (5723 ), Arise (5628 ), and go (5737 ) toward the south unto the way that goeth down (5723 ) from Jerusalem unto Gaza , which is (5748 ) desert . * And he arose (5631 ) and went (5675 ): and , behold (5628 ), a man of Ethiopia , an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians , who had (5713 ) the charge of all her treasure , and had come (5715 ) to Jerusalem for to worship (5694 ), * Was (5713 ) returning (5723 ), and sitting (5740 ) in his chariot read (5707 ) Esaias the prophet . * Then the Spirit said (5627 ) unto Philip , Go near (5628 ), and join thyself to (5682 ) this chariot . * And Philip ran (5631 ) thither to him , and heard (5656 ) him read (5723 ) the prophet Esaias , and said (5627 ), Understandest thou (5719 ) what thou readest (5719 )? * And he said (5627 ), How can I (5739 ), except some man should guide (5661 ) me ? And he desired (5656 ) Philip that he would come up (5631 ) and sit (5658 ) with him . * The place of the scripture which he read (5707 ) was (5713 ) this , He was led (5681 ) as a sheep to the slaughter ; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer (5723 ), so opened he (5719 ) not his mouth : * In his humiliation his judgment was taken away (5681 ): and who shall declare (5695 ) his generation ? for his life is taken (5743 ) from the earth . * And the eunuch answered (5679 ) Philip , and said (5627 ), I pray (5736 ) thee , of whom speaketh (5719 ) the prophet this ? of himself , or of some other man ? * Then Philip opened (5660 ) his mouth , and began (5671 ) at the same scripture , and preached (5668 ) unto him Jesus . * And as they went (5711 ) on their way , they came (5627 ) unto a certain water : and the eunuch said (5748 ), See (5628 ), here is water ; what doth hinder (5719 ) me to be baptized (5683 )? * And Philip said (5627 ), If thou believest (5719 ) with all thine heart , thou mayest (5748 ). And he answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), I believe (5719 ) that Jesus Christ is (5750 ) the Son of God . * And he commanded (5656 ) the chariot to stand still (5629 ): and they went down (5627 ) both into the water , both Philip and the eunuch ; and he baptized (5656 ) him . * And when they were come up (5627 ) out of the water , the Spirit of the Lord caught away (5656 ) Philip , that the eunuch saw (5627 ) him no more : and he went (5711 ) on his way rejoicing (5723 ). * But Philip was found (5681 ) at Azotus : and passing (5740 ) through he preached (5710 ) in all the cities , till he came (5629 ) to Caesarea .
