* Wherefore seeing we also are (5723 ) compassed about (5740 ) with so great a cloud of witnesses , let us lay aside (5642 ) every weight , and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run (5725 ) with patience the race that is set before (5740 ) us , * Looking (5723 ) unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith ; who for the joy that was set before (5740 ) him endured (5656 ) the cross , despising (5660 ) the shame , and is set down (5656 ) at the right hand of the throne of God . * For consider (5663 ) him that endured (5761 ) such contradiction of sinners against himself , lest ye be wearied (5632 ) and faint (5746 ) in your minds . * Ye have not yet resisted (5627 ) unto blood , striving (5740 ) against sin . * And ye have forgotten (5769 ) the exhortation which speaketh (5736 ) unto you as unto children , My son , despise not thou (5720 ) the chastening of the Lord , nor faint (5744 ) when thou art rebuked (5746 ) of him : * For whom the Lord loveth (5719 ) he chasteneth (5719 ), and scourgeth (5719 ) every son whom he receiveth (5736 ). * If ye endure (5719 ) chastening , God dealeth (5743 ) with you as with sons ; for what son is he (5748 ) whom the father chasteneth (5719 ) not ? * But if ye be (5748 ) without chastisement , whereof all are (5754 ) partakers , then are ye (5748 ) bastards , and not sons . * Furthermore we have had (5707 ) fathers of our flesh which corrected us , and we gave them reverence (5710 ): shall we not much rather be in subjection (5691 ) unto the Father of spirits , and live (5692 )? * For they verily for a few days chastened (5707 ) us after their own pleasure (5723 ); but he for our profit (5723 ), that we might be partakers (5629 ) of his holiness . * Now no chastening for the present (5752 ) seemeth (5719 ) to be (5750 ) joyous , but grievous : nevertheless afterward it yieldeth (5719 ) the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised (5772 ) thereby . * Wherefore lift up (5657 ) the hands which hang down (5772 ), and the feeble (5772 ) knees ; * And make (5657 ) straight paths for your feet , lest that which is lame be turned out of the way (5652 ); but let it rather be healed (5686 ). * Follow (5720 ) peace with all men , and holiness , without which no man shall see (5695 ) the Lord : * Looking diligently (5723 ) lest any man fail (5723 ) of the grace of God ; lest any root of bitterness springing (5723 ) up trouble (5725 ) you , and thereby many be defiled (5686 ); * Lest there be any fornicator , or profane person , as Esau , who for one morsel of meat sold (5639 ) his birthright . * For ye know (5759 ) how that afterward , when he would (5723 ) have inherited (5658 ) the blessing , he was rejected (5681 ): for he found (5627 ) no place of repentance , though he sought it carefully (5660 ) with tears . * For ye are not come (5754 ) unto the mount that might be touched (5746 ), and that burned (5772 ) with fire , nor unto blackness , and darkness , and tempest , * And the sound of a trumpet , and the voice of words ; which voice they that heard (5660 ) intreated (5662 ) that the word should not be spoken (5683 ) to them any more : * (For they could not endure (5707 ) that which was commanded (5746 ), And if so much as a beast touch (5632 ) the mountain , it shall be stoned (5701 ), or thrust through (5701 ) with a dart : * And so terrible was (5713 ) the sight (5746 ), that Moses said (5627 ), I exceedingly fear (5748 ) and quake :) * But ye are come (5754 ) unto mount Sion , and unto the city of the living (5723 ) God , the heavenly Jerusalem , and to an innumerable company of angels , * To the general assembly and church of the firstborn , which are written (5772 ) in heaven , and to God the Judge of all , and to the spirits of just men made perfect (5772 ), * And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant , and to the blood of sprinkling , that speaketh (5723 ) better things than that of Abel . * See (5720 ) that ye refuse (5667 ) not him that speaketh (5723 ). For if they escaped (5627 ) not who refused him (5666 ) that spake (5723 ) on earth , much more shall not we escape , if we turn away from him (5734 ) that speaketh from heaven : * Whose voice then shook (5656 ) the earth : but now he hath promised (5766 ), saying (5723 ), Yet once more I shake (5719 ) not the earth only , but also heaven . * And this word , Yet once more , signifieth (5719 ) the removing of those things that are shaken (5746 ), as of things that are made (5772 ), that those things which cannot be shaken (5746 ) may remain (5661 ). * Wherefore we receiving (5723 ) a kingdom which cannot be moved , let us have (5725 ) grace , whereby we may serve (5725 ) God acceptably with reverence and godly fear : * For our God is a consuming (5723 ) fire .
