* Therefore we ought (5748 ) to give the more earnest heed (5721 ) to the things which we have heard (5685 ), lest at any time we should let them slip (5632 ). * For if the word spoken (5685 ) by angels was (5633 ) stedfast , and every transgression and disobedience received (5627 ) a just recompence of reward ; * How shall we escape (5695 ), if we neglect (5660 ) so great salvation ; which at the first began (5631 ) to be spoken (5745 ) by the Lord , and was confirmed (5681 ) unto us by them that heard (5660 ) him ; * God also bearing them witness (5723 ), both with signs and wonders , and with divers miracles , and gifts of the Holy Ghost , according to his own will ? * For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection (5656 ) the world to come (5723 ), whereof we speak (5719 ). * But one in a certain place testified (5662 ), saying (5723 ), What is (5748 ) man , that thou art mindful (5736 ) of him ? or the son of man , that thou visitest (5736 ) him ? * Thou madest him a little lower (5656 ) than the angels ; thou crownedst (5656 ) him with glory and honour , and didst set (5656 ) him over the works of thy hands : * Thou hast put all things in subjection (5656 ) under his feet . For in that he put all in subjection under (5658 ) him , he left (5656 ) nothing that is not put under him . But now we see (5719 ) not yet all things put under (5772 ) him . * But we see (5719 ) Jesus , who was made a little lower (5772 ) than the angels for the suffering of death , crowned (5772 ) with glory and honour ; that he by the grace of God should taste (5667 ) death for every man . * For it became (5707 ) him , for whom are all things , and by whom are all things , in bringing (5631 ) many sons unto glory , to make the captain of their salvation perfect (5658 ) through sufferings . * For both he that sanctifieth (5723 ) and they who are sanctified (5746 ) are all of one : for which cause he is not ashamed (5736 ) to call (5721 ) them brethren , * Saying (5723 ), I will declare (5692 ) thy name unto my brethren , in the midst of the church will I sing praise (5692 ) unto thee . * And again , I will (5704 ) put my trust (5756 ) in him . And again , Behold (5628 ) I and the children which God hath given (5656 ) me . * Forasmuch then as the children are partakers (5758 ) of flesh and blood , he also himself likewise took part (5627 ) of the same ; that through death he might destroy (5661 ) him that had (5723 ) the power of death , that is (5748 ), the devil ; * And deliver (5661 ) them who through fear of death were (5713 ) all their lifetime (5721 ) subject to bondage . * For verily he took not on (5736 ) him the nature of angels ; but he took on (5736 ) him the seed of Abraham . * Wherefore in all things it behoved him (5707 ) to be made like (5683 ) unto his brethren , that he might be (5638 ) a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God , to make reconciliation for (5745 ) the sins of the people . * For in that he himself hath suffered (5754 ) being tempted (5685 ), he is able (5736 ) to succour (5658 ) them that are tempted (5746 ).
