* Therefore leaving (5631 ) the principles of the doctrine of Christ , let us go on (5747 ) unto perfection ; not laying (5734 ) again the foundation of repentance from dead works , and of faith toward God , * Of the doctrine of baptisms , and of laying on of hands , and of resurrection of the dead , and of eternal judgment . * And this will we do (5692 ), if God permit (5725 ). * For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened (5685 ), and have tasted (5666 ) of the heavenly gift , and were made (5679 ) partakers of the Holy Ghost , * And have tasted (5666 ) the good word of God , and the powers of the world to come (5723 ), * If they shall fall away (5631 ), to renew them (5721 ) again unto repentance ; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh (5723 ), and put him to an open shame (5723 ). * For the earth which drinketh in (5631 ) the rain that cometh (5740 ) oft upon it , and bringeth forth (5723 ) herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed (5743 ), receiveth (5719 ) blessing from God : * But that which beareth (5723 ) thorns and briers is rejected , and is nigh unto cursing ; whose end is to be burned . * But , beloved , we are persuaded (5769 ) better things of you , and things that accompany (5746 ) salvation , though we thus speak (5719 ). * For God is not unrighteous to forget (5635 ) your work and labour of love , which ye have shewed (5668 ) (5625 ) (5669 ) toward his name , in that ye have ministered (5660 ) to the saints , and do minister (5723 ). * And we desire (5719 ) that every one of you do shew (5733 ) the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end : * That ye be (5638 ) not slothful , but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit (5723 ) the promises . * For when God made promise (5666 ) to Abraham , because he could (5707 ) swear (5658 ) by no greater , he sware (5656 ) by himself , * Saying (5723 ), Surely blessing (5723 ) I will bless (5692 ) thee , and multiplying (5723 ) I will multiply (5692 ) thee . * And so , after he had patiently endured (5660 ), he obtained (5627 ) the promise . * For men verily swear (5719 ) by the greater : and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife . * Wherein God , willing (5740 ) more abundantly to shew (5658 ) unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel , confirmed (5656 ) it by an oath : * That by two immutable things , in which it was impossible for God to lie (5664 ), we might have (5725 ) a strong consolation , who have fled for refuge (5631 ) to lay hold (5658 ) upon the hope set before us (5740 ): * Which hope we have (5719 ) as an anchor of the soul , both sure and stedfast , and which entereth (5740 ) into that within the veil ; * Whither the forerunner is for us entered (5627 ), even Jesus , made (5637 ) an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec .
