* For this Melchisedec , king of Salem , priest of the most high God , who met (5660 ) Abraham returning (5723 ) from the slaughter of the kings , and blessed (5660 ) him ; * To whom also Abraham gave (5656 ) a tenth part of all ; first being by interpretation (5746 ) King of righteousness , and after that also King of Salem , which is (5748 ), King of peace ; * Without father , without mother , without descent , having (5723 ) neither beginning of days , nor end of life ; but made like (5772 ) unto the Son of God ; abideth (5719 ) a priest continually . * Now consider (5719 ) how great this man was , unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave (5656 ) the tenth of the spoils . * And verily they that are of the sons of Levi , who receive (5723 ) the office of the priesthood , have (5719 ) a commandment to take tithes (5721 ) of the people according to the law , that is (5748 ), of their brethren , though they come (5761 ) out of the loins of Abraham : * But he whose descent is not counted (5746 ) from them received tithes (5758 ) of Abraham , and blessed (5758 ) him that had (5723 ) the promises . * And without all contradiction the less is blessed (5743 ) of the better .
