Art (5748 ) thou Elias ? And he saith (5719 ), I am (5748 ) not . Art (5748 ) thou that prophet ? And he answered (5662 ), No . * Then said they (5627 ) unto him , Who art thou (5748 )? that we may give (5632 ) an answer to them that sent (5660 ) us . What sayest thou (5719 ) of thyself ? * He said (5713 ), I am the voice of one crying (5723 ) in the wilderness , Make straight (5657 ) the way of the Lord , as said (5627 ) the prophet Esaias . * And they which were sent (5772 ) were (5713 ) of the Pharisees . * And they asked (5656 ) him , and said (5627 ) unto him , Why baptizest thou (5719 ) then , if thou be (5748 ) not that Christ , nor Elias , neither that prophet ? * John answered (5662 ) them , saying (5723 ), I baptize (5719 ) with water : but there standeth one (5707 ) (5758 ) among you , whom ye know (5758 ) not ; * He it is (5748 ), who coming (5740 ) after me is preferred (5754 ) before me , whose shoes latchet I am (5748 ) not worthy to unloose (5661 ). * These things were done (5633 ) in Bethabara beyond Jordan , where John was (5713 ) baptizing (5723 ). * The next day John seeth (5719 ) Jesus coming (5740 ) unto him , and saith (5719 ), Behold the Lamb of God , which taketh away (5723 ) the sin of the world . * This is he (5748 ) of whom I said (5627 ), After me cometh (5736 ) a man which is preferred (5754 ) before me : for he was (5713 ) before me . * And I knew (5715 ) him not : but that he should be made manifest (5686 ) to Israel , therefore am I come (5627 ) baptizing (5723 ) with water . * And John bare record (5656 ), saying (5723 ), I saw (5766 ) the Spirit descending (5723 ) from heaven like a dove , and it abode (5656 ) upon him . * And I knew (5715 ) him not : but he that sent (5660 ) me to baptize (5721 ) with water , the same said (5627 ) unto me , Upon whom thou shalt see (5632 ) the Spirit descending (5723 ), and remaining (5723 ) on him , the same is (5748 ) he which baptizeth (5723 ) with the Holy Ghost . * And I saw (5758 ), and bare record (5758 ) that this is (5748 ) the Son of God . * Again the next day after John stood (5715 ), and two of his disciples ; * And looking upon (5660 ) Jesus as he walked (5723 ), he saith (5719 ), Behold the Lamb of God ! * And the two disciples heard (5656 ) him speak (5723 ), and they followed (5656 ) Jesus . * Then Jesus turned (5651 ), and saw (5666 ) them following (5723 ), and saith (5719 ) unto them , What seek ye (5719 )? They said (5627 ) unto him , Rabbi , (which is to say (5743 ), being interpreted (5746 ), Master ,) where dwellest thou (5719 )? * He saith (5719 ) unto them , Come (5737 ) and see (5628 ). They came (5627 ) and saw (5627 ) where he dwelt (5719 ), and abode (5656 ) with him that day : for it was (5713 ) about the tenth hour . * One of the two which heard (5660 ) John speak , and followed (5660 ) him , was (5713 ) Andrew , Simon Peters brother . * He first findeth (5719 ) his own brother Simon , and saith (5719 ) unto him , We have found (5758 ) the Messias , which is (5748 ), being interpreted (5746 ), the Christ . * And he brought (5627 ) him to Jesus . And when Jesus beheld (5660 ) him , he said (5627 ), Thou art (5748 ) Simon the son of Jona : thou shalt be called (5701 ) Cephas , which is by interpretation (5743 ), A stone . * The day following Jesus would (5656 ) go forth (5629 ) into Galilee , and findeth (5719 ) Philip , and saith (5719 ) unto him , Follow (5720 ) me . * Now Philip was (5713 ) of Bethsaida , the city of Andrew and Peter . * Philip findeth (5719 ) Nathanael , and saith (5719 ) unto him , We have found (5758 ) him , of whom Moses in the law , and the prophets , did write (5656 ), Jesus of Nazareth , the son of Joseph . * And Nathanael said (5627 ) unto him , Can (5736 ) there any good thing come (5750 ) out of Nazareth ? Philip saith (5719 ) unto him , Come (5736 ) and see (5657 ). * Jesus saw (5627 ) Nathanael coming (5740 ) to him , and saith (5719 ) of him , Behold an Israelite indeed , in whom is (5748 ) no guile ! * Nathanael saith (5719 ) unto him , Whence knowest thou (5719 ) me ? Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Before that Philip called (5658 ) thee , when thou wast (5752 ) under the fig tree , I saw (5627 ) thee . * Nathanael answered (5662 ) and saith (5719 ) unto him , Rabbi , thou art (5748 ) the Son of God ; thou art (5748 ) the King of Israel . * Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Because I said (5627 ) unto thee , I saw (5627 ) thee under the fig tree , believest thou (5719 )? thou shalt see (5695 ) greater things than these . * And he saith (5719 ) unto him , Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto you , Hereafter ye shall see (5695 ) heaven open (5757 ), and the angels of God ascending (5723 ) and descending (5723 ) upon the Son of man .
