* Then Pilate therefore took (5627 ) Jesus , and scourged (5656 ) him . * And the soldiers platted (5660 ) a crown of thorns , and put it on (5656 ) his head , and they put on (5627 ) him a purple robe , * And said (5707 ), Hail (5720 ), King of the Jews ! and they smote (5707 ) him with their hands . * Pilate therefore went (5627 ) forth again , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Behold , I bring (5719 ) him forth to you , that ye may know (5632 ) that I find (5719 ) no fault in him . * Then came (5627 ) Jesus forth , wearing (5723 ) the crown of thorns , and the purple robe . And Pilate saith (5719 ) unto them , Behold the man ! * When the chief priests therefore and officers saw (5627 ) him , they cried out (5656 ), saying (5723 ), Crucify (5657 ) him , crucify (5657 ) him . Pilate saith (5719 ) unto them , Take (5628 ) ye him , and crucify (5657 ) him : for I find (5719 ) no fault in him . * The Jews answered (5662 ) him , We have (5719 ) a law , and by our law he ought (5719 ) to die (5629 ), because he made (5656 ) himself the Son of God . * When Pilate therefore heard (5656 ) that saying , he was the more afraid (5675 ); * And went (5627 ) again into the judgment hall , and saith (5719 ) unto Jesus , Whence art (5748 ) thou ? But Jesus gave (5656 ) him no answer . * Then saith (5719 ) Pilate unto him , Speakest thou (5719 ) not unto me ? knowest thou (5758 ) not that I have (5719 ) power to crucify (5658 ) thee , and have (5719 ) power to release (5658 ) thee ? * Jesus answered (5662 ), Thou couldest have (5707 ) no power at all against me , except it were (5713 ) given (5772 ) thee from above : therefore he that delivered (5723 ) me unto thee hath (5719 ) the greater sin . * And from thenceforth Pilate sought (5707 ) to release (5658 ) him : but the Jews cried out (5707 ), saying (5723 ), If thou let this man go (5661 ), thou art (5748 ) not Caesars friend : whosoever maketh (5723 ) himself a king speaketh against (5719 ) Caesar . * When Pilate therefore heard (5660 ) that saying , he brought (5627 ) Jesus forth , and sat down (5656 ) in the judgment seat in a place that is called (5746 ) the Pavement , but in the Hebrew , Gabbatha . * And it was (5713 ) the preparation of the passover , and about the sixth hour : and he saith (5719 ) unto the Jews , Behold your King ! * But they cried out (5656 ), Away with (5657 ) him , away with (5657 ) him , crucify (5657 ) him . Pilate saith (5719 ) unto them , Shall I crucify (5692 ) your King ? The chief priests answered (5662 ), We have (5719 ) no king but Caesar . * Then delivered he (5656 ) him therefore unto them to be crucified (5686 ). And they took (5627 ) Jesus , and led him away (5627 ). * And he bearing (5723 ) his cross went forth (5627 ) into a place called (5746 ) the place of a skull , which is called (5743 ) in the Hebrew Golgotha : * Where they crucified (5656 ) him , and two other with him , on either side one , and Jesus in the midst . * And Pilate wrote (5656 ) a title , and put (5656 ) it on the cross . And the writing (5772 ) was (5713 ), JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS . * This title then read (5627 ) many of the Jews : for the place where Jesus was crucified (5681 ) was (5713 ) nigh to the city : and it was (5713 ) written (5772 ) in Hebrew , and Greek , and Latin . * Then said (5707 ) the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate , Write (5720 ) not , The King of the Jews ; but that he said (5627 ), I am (5748 ) King of the Jews . * Pilate answered (5662 ), What I have written (5758 ) I have written (5758 ). * Then the soldiers , when they had crucified (5656 ) Jesus , took (5627 ) his garments , and made (5656 ) four parts , to every soldier a part ; and also his coat : now the coat was (5713 ) without seam , woven from the top throughout . * They said (5627 ) therefore among themselves , Let us not rend (5661 ) it , but cast lots (5632 ) for it , whose it shall be (5704 ): that the scripture might be fulfilled (5686 ), which saith (5723 ), They parted (5668 ) my raiment among them , and for my vesture they did cast (5627 ) lots . These things therefore the soldiers did (5656 ). * Now there stood (5715 ) by the cross of Jesus his mother , and his mothers sister , Mary the wife of Cleophas , and Mary Magdalene . * When Jesus therefore saw (5631 ) his mother , and the disciple standing by (5761 ), whom he loved (5707 ), he saith (5719 ) unto his mother , Woman , behold (5628 ) thy son ! * Then saith he (5719 ) to the disciple , Behold (5628 ) thy mother ! And from that hour that disciple took (5627 ) her unto his own home . * After this , Jesus knowing (5761 ) that all things were now accomplished (5769 ), that the scripture might be fulfilled (5686 ), saith (5719 ), I thirst (5719 ). * Now there was set (5711 ) a vessel full of vinegar : and they filled (5660 ) a spunge with vinegar , and put it upon (5631 ) hyssop , and put (5656 ) it to his mouth . * When Jesus therefore had received (5627 ) the vinegar , he said (5627 ), It is finished (5769 ): and he bowed (5660 ) his head , and gave up (5656 ) the ghost . * The Jews therefore , because it was (5713 ) (5625 ) (5713 ) the preparation , that the bodies should not remain (5661 ) upon the cross on the sabbath day , (for that sabbath day was (5713 ) an high day ,) besought (5656 ) Pilate that their legs might be broken (5652 ), and that they might be taken away (5686 ). * Then came (5627 ) the soldiers , and brake (5656 ) the legs of the first , and of the other which was crucified with (5685 ) him . * But when they came (5631 ) to Jesus , and saw (5627 ) that he was dead (5761 ) already , they brake (5656 ) not his legs : * But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced (5656 ) his side , and forthwith came there out (5627 ) blood and water . * And he that saw (5761 ) it bare record (5758 ), and his record is (5748 ) true : and he knoweth (5758 ) that he saith (5719 ) true , that ye might believe (5661 ). * For these things were done (5633 ), that the scripture should be fulfilled (5686 ), A bone of him shall not be broken (5691 ). * And again another scripture saith (5719 ), They shall look (5695 ) on him whom they pierced (5656 ). * And after this Joseph of Arimathaea , being (5752 ) a disciple of Jesus , but secretly (5772 ) for fear of the Jews , besought (5656 ) Pilate that he might take away (5661 ) the body of Jesus : and Pilate gave him leave (5656 ). He came (5627 ) therefore , and took (5656 ) the body of Jesus . * And there came (5627 ) also Nicodemus , which at the first came (5631 ) to Jesus by night , and brought (5723 ) a mixture of myrrh and aloes , about an hundred pound weight . * Then took they (5627 ) the body of Jesus , and wound (5656 ) it in linen clothes with the spices , as the manner of the Jews is (5748 ) to bury (5721 ). * Now in the place where he was crucified (5681 ) there was (5713 ) a garden ; and in the garden a new sepulchre , wherein was never man yet laid (5681 ). * There laid they (5656 ) Jesus therefore because of the Jews preparation day ; for the sepulchre was (5713 ) nigh at hand .
